“Supernature” by Cerrone – Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Cerrone’s 1977 tour de force, “Supernature” is still considered one of the finest electronic disco compositions. It is.

With his mastermind and talented musicians, Cerrone created an album, which marked the coming of disco in its perfect form. This track has been reworked and re-recorded, but never with the same impact as the original.

I have taken the song and paired it with the 1977-film “Island Of Dr. Moreau” starring Burt Lancaster, Michael York, Nigel, Richard Basehart and Barbara Carrera. The theme is obviously in the same vein as being the demise of mans idea for controlling nature.

This video mix touches closely at a time when technology allows us to see how nature exists along side of us – and not for us.

"Call Me Tonight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Cerrone

• "Call Me Tonight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Cerrone

The 1979 project by Cerrone titled, “Angelina” is probably one of his most profound of this great mans work. This being the last of the disco era and being one of the most contained. “Call Me Tonight” is close to perfection and weaves the sensual and yearning cry of a lover who is feeling what we all need.

This ReStructure introduces a new phasing intro of phrases from the original, which create the mystic of Cerrone. I dedicate this track to Philip from Nutley, NJ for understanding that disco music is deeper than we know.

"The Boss" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Diana Ross

• "The Boss" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Diana Ross

During the peak of disco one of the highlights is "The Boss" by Diana Ross. The LP was a masterpiece of tracks produced by Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson and featured Diana on top of the world.

"The Boss" is a track that stands alone. The impact that it created for Ross as an artist is enough to make this one last forever. It also outlines our vulnerability to cleaver lyrics and the emphasis on love itself.

My ReStructure is a look at the track from a percussion and string forte which are the dramatic areas of the disco mix.

"Rock Solid" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chi Chi Favelas and The Black and White Band

• "Rock Solid" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chi Chi Favelas and The Black and White Band

This track was released on an LP by the same name in 1978 - it is obviously a group of musicians who were well educated on disco - probably Euro-disco. It was recorded at Trident Studios which is where Alec R. Costandinos worked allot of his disco magic.

Slim Pezin (Voyage, Kikrokos) is featured on guitars and George Roddi (Voyage) on keyboards and synthesizers as well as Sue Glover and Sunny Leslie on vocals - and these girls were Cerrone's ensemble on early projects as well as backing for a few Donna Summer LPs.

With the outline as such, you understand why it is such a fantastic endeavor. Produced by Alain Wisniak and is listed at "the tastiest disco sound around". I agree. The use of a rock and roll influence and theme is deeply successful.

I have ReStructured "Rock Solid" re-using the fabulous guitar piece which "disco-rocks!"

"War Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Kebekelektrik

• "War Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Kebekelektrik

During a heavy experimental period of disco music in 1978 came a studio group by the name of Kebekelektrik - this band consisted of Canadian producer Pat Deserio and producer, artist Gino Soccio.

"War Dance" is a track which immediately became a dance floor favorite with its fast paced energy and use of trailing synthesizers pumping out a bottom end for a wicked Indian style melody flowing as if it were a orchestral experience. It is almost as if the keyboards are speaking to you.

I have taken this track thanks to a request by Dori who asked that this classic be ReStructured.

"Haven't You Heard" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Patrice Rushen

• "Haven't You Heard" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Patrice Rushen

Patrice Rushen released 4 LPS from 1974 – 1978 and finally releasing “Pizzazz” in 1979, which featured the powerhouse dance track, “Haven’t You Heard”. Produced by Reggie Andrews and featured a full ensemble of jazz and pop musicians adding their experience and talent to the wonderful tracks in this project.

Long before her classic old school number, “Forget Me Nots” this big stomper made quite a hit on disco charts and dance floors everywhere.

I have ReStructured “Haven’t You Heard” with a touch of electronic bass lines and looped vocal pieces to complete a whole new arrangement and feel to the song.

When songwriter and vocalist Amuka (Sheila Brody) sings, she transports to another place, as each chord of her voice touches a tender zone in the heart. Her tone is familiar - her words too, as they stir deep down in the soft part of your wounded soul. She makes your heart joyful, makes you shout, as she disperses soothing medicine to make everything alright through lyrics in which she tells the story of a woman whose spirit cannot be broken. They are stories we can all relate to.

"You Can Do It" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Al Hudson and The Partners

• "You Can Do It" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Al Hudson and The Partners

This single was released under 2 band names - Al Hudson and The Partners and One Way featuring Al Hudson - I decided to use both as an identifiable cross reference.

A great combination of funk and disco in this track - and it gets more complicated. Alicia Meyers is featured in a fantastic solo which brings this track to an all time high. It was released in 1979 on MCA Records.

A new ReStructure Mix brings this song some added percussion and creates a forward mix full of breaks and crescendos!

"Freak On" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Lemon

• "Freak On" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Lemon

Kenny Lehman (Rhetta Hughes, Chic, Roundtree) created Lemon – and the name obviously came from his sir name, Lehman.

This production was one influenced by the late 70’s style of disco. The single “Freak On” was originally released on Salsoul Records in 1978 then released on the LP titled “Lemon” later 1978 on Prelude Records. This track obviously worked off of the sensation created by Chic’s “Le Freak” but also had it’s own sound and funkiness.

I have taken “Freak On” and recreated the scenario with more looping and self-contained percussion and also added some new base tracks to enhance a new excitement.
