ReStructure Mix Update (5/31/19) “Tossing, Turning and Swinging” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Shalamar

Shalamar is one of early disco-soul ensembles to emerge with hits medley from 1977 titled “Uptown Festival” – produced by Simon Soussan. The track consisted of Motown dance hits blended into a tight disco song with a colorful arrangement and great inception for Shalamar. Their disco years were defiantly their notable time with “Take That To The Bank” and “Tossing, Turning and Swinging”. The group made a move into the arena of soul glazed disco with the soulful vocals and electronic funk being devised by Dick Griffey.

I have taken the album version of “Tossing, Turning and Swinging” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix adding some beats and percussion to play along. The great Motown-esque song brings back that shimmy-shimmy feel and a soulful touch that only Shalamar can create.

REISSUE: "Good, Good Feelin'" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - WAR

WAR is a soul/funk band which started in the early 70s out of Southern California. Their producer Jerry Goldstein brought them into the recording music scene and the rest has only benefited our ears and feet.

"Good, Good Feelin'" is from their "The Music Band" LP and the second big disco single from the band.

I have ReStructured the 12" single version by request of Mario (DJ Teacher) and dedicated this re-working of a great dance number to him!

REISSUE: "Double Dutch Bus" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Frankie Smith

REISSUE: "Double Dutch Bus" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Frankie Smith

It was 1980 and dance floors were experiencing a shift in music and attitude. Much of dance became funky and electronic - many of the high energy tracks that were being generated were either from the disco renaissance or Imports from Europe. It took a funky track like "Double Dutch Bus" to give dance floors a fun and carefree angle on changes in style.

Frankie Smith moved into the dance market with a novelty style rap that is now a lighter side of hip hop with a colorful side. Produced by Bill Bloom and Frankie Smith this track has become both an old school classic and a wedding reception must!

This track is a safe remix again, from a project which outlined a more basic edit. I share it with all of you to remind you of the side of disco which became old school.

REISSUE: "Took Me So Long” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Cerrone

REISSUE: "Took Me So Long” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Cerrone

Cerrone not only brought European disco to the US in the mid-70s and in the early 80s used his genius to construct an exciting fusion of his horns, drums and energy for a new period of disco/dance music. “You Are The One” is from 1980 and crosses the dance bridge to another style for Cerrone along with vocalists Jocelyn Brown, Kristal Davis and Ullanda McCullough. “Took Me So Long” is one of the first singles that I got immediate response from my dance floor and it soon became one of those funk/disco songs that always sound fresh. Jocelyn Brown on lead vocals gives Cerrone a new sound and effect in his creation.

I have taken the album version of “Took Me So Long” and extended the keyboard riffs to a new ReStructure Mix. This mix plays out as a peak our number that may have added another fire to clubs like Paradise Garage on a Saturday night. One of the payments to the great Cerrone who never let us down.

REISSUE: "Too Tight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Con Funk Shun

REISSUE: "Too Tight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Con Funk Shun

Con Funk Shun was created by Louis A. McCall and Michael V. Cooper - a popular R&B and funk ensemble whose #1 Billboard hit "Ffun" is now an old school classic.

Their 1980 LP "Touch" contained the big dance single "Too Tight" that brought the funk back to many dance floors in the early 80's - this one followed their big hit from the same year, "Got To Be Enough".

I have ReStructured the track to give it a longer arrangement and bring out that beautiful keyboard break with the lovely string section - and also enhance on the tracks already funky style with a new electro-vibe layer.

Dedicated to the band - Con Funk Shun - let them "con-funk-shunize ya!"

REISSUE: "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - The S.O.S. Band

REISSUE: "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - The S.O.S. Band

1980 marked a tremendous hit by The S.O.S. Band (Sounds Of Success) with "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" - with the shift of dance music this track was a welcoming sight. Disco music was becoming a bit less energetic and evolving into a funkier sound once again, but this time with more of a synthesized edge.

This ReStructure was developed a year ago for another project exclusively but never used - so it is yours as a reminder of disco's power and ever lasting feel.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/30/19) “Illusion” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Illusion

ReStructure Mix Update (5/30/19) “Illusion” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Illusion

Illusion is an Italo-disco project from Dutch producer Bert Ruiter from 1984. This sharp beat driven track follows closely the Miami-freestyle sound coming from the club scene. This sound used a Latin-flair to accentuate the beat box stylized drum arrangements. “Illusion” uses this technique along with the Italo-disco sound to create a heartbreak tune with a sweetness which most of the female groups of freestyle were containing as a staple. This one works as the Italo-disco drums inhabit parts of the mix and rolling percussion adds to the new rhythm. The vocal has a sweetness that cannot be ignored. A nice piece of dance music from 1984 and floor filler for me.

I have taken the 12” vocal and “drum mix” elements to create this ReStructure Mix which adds some new freestyle beats to give it a lift and make it move more than the hips.

REISSUE: "Vamp" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gregg Diamond's Hardware

Gregg Diamond is a disco producer who was formerly a member of a rock-band, Five Dollar Shoes from 1972. His 1975 production of Andrea True Connection’s “More, More, More” gave him immediate attention in the soul and disco genre. His style was truly a layered production with many riffs and grooves for the quickly emerging disco sound. His project Bionic Boogie from 1977 is one of the examples of Diamond’s touch in combining soulful vocals with his unique arrangements – along with the assistance of Tom Moulton extending the songs for discotheques which was the new edge on soul and funk music.

Hardware is a project from 1979 with a sound that displays how disco music matured and revitalized itself almost to a mechanical beat and outline. His vocal ensemble is close to the Bionic Boogie projects with a feel of rock infused.

“Vamp” is a clip-track from the album that is actually the closing of another song from the project titled “War Paint (Love Line)” (featuring a saxophone solo from David Sanborn). It is merely one of Diamond’s plays with a vocal riff and the infectious rhythm of his guitar and drum kicks. I have taken the same theme and extended with lots of tricks and new breaks to frame the chant, “Did she dance?”

REISSUE: “This Side Of Midnight” by Gregg Diamond’s Star Cruiser – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE: “This Side Of Midnight” by Gregg Diamond’s Star Cruiser – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Gregg Diamond’s Star Cruiser is a 1978 project from the producer extraordinaire of boogie/funk and the sound of disco music which bought the late 70s a new edge. His work with past artists like George McCrae, Gloria Gaynor, Andrea True Connection, Ian Lloyd and his own Bionic Boogie and Hardware disco projects gave us a groovy disco arrangement and a feel.

“This Side Of Midnight” is from the 1978 album “Star Cruiser” and features Diva Gray, Jocelyn Brown and Gordon Grody on vocals. A big disco classic with all of Diamond’s magic intact.

I have taken the album version of “This Side Of Midnight” and transferred the disco emotion to the real drama of the film based on the 1973 novel by Sidney Sheldon – “The Other Side of Midnight” – the film stars Marie-France Pisier, John Beck and Susa Sarandon. I have centered on the love between Marie-France and John Beck and kept only the bright side of their love and moved the drama slightly outward.

The film was directed by Charles Jarott

REISSUE: "Greyhound Bus" by Gregg Diamond's Hardware - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE: "Greyhound Bus" by Gregg Diamond's Hardware - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Gregg Diamond produced some of disco's most prestigious music -- from projects by George McCrae, Gloria Gaynor and Andrea True Connection. Some of his best works were his studio productions by Bionic Boogie, Star Cruiser and Hardware. This cut recorded under Hardware is from the LP featuring the single, "Shinin'" which was the only track released as a 12" single.

Being a big fan of Diamond's productions I found his creativity as a writer to be equally as interesting and "left field" - songs like "Greyhound Bus" were as playful with their words as they were musically. Hardware was more of a disco band style of sound so horns and his vocal ensemble were the focus here. Featuring Diva Gray, Gordon Grody and Jocelyn Brown on vocals as well as jazz musician, David Sanborn on saxophone.

Taking the 1976 film, "The Big Bus" which was a spoof on 70's disaster films was an idea I got while thinking about the Gregg Diamond track. The film directed by James Frawley (credited with episodes of "That Girl", "Magnum P.I." and "The Muppet Movie" among many others) is an uproarious adventure with stars, Joseph Bologna, Stockard Channing, Ned Beatty, John Beck and Ruth Gordon. It is the first spoof on disasters which many mistake, "Airplane" as the forerunner. It was just as cleaver, but probably not as effective as "Airplane's success. It was the ultimate disaster film parody of a nuclear powered bus is going Non-stop from New York to Denver -- but not without a few problems.

REISSUE: “Arista Vista" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gregg Diamond's Star Cruiser

REISSUE: “Arista Vista" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gregg Diamond's Star Cruiser

Gregg Diamond is mastermind behind disco groups Bionic Boogie, Hardware, I.O.B. and Star Cruiser. He also produced projects by Gloria Gaynor, Andrea True Connection, and George McCrae.

Star Crusier's 1978 album is one of the most iconic and tightest disco productions from the period. The first single off of the project to hit dance floors is "This Side Of Midnight" featuring vocals from Diva Gray. Several other cuts also became favorites for DJs and record collectors. One of my favorites from this incredible album is a funky instrumental called "Arista Vista" - a rhythm and percussion similar to Andrea True's "More More More".

I have taken the album version and ReStructured the piece to play with the guitar, percussion and rhythm tracks to see what I could come up with - this is it!

Dedicated to Jussi K. and Lloyd C. from Facebook - thanks boys for reminding me what a "genius" Mr. Diamond is and continues to influence.

REISSUE: “Island Boogie” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gregg Diamond’s Star Cruiser

REISSUE: “Island Boogie” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gregg Diamond’s Star Cruiser

Gregg Diamond created a sound for dance floors with a funky-rock edged groove which helped to shape the sound of “boogie” music as it matured as disco. His project Star Cruiser is a 1978 follow up to his 1977 band Bionic Boogie. His earlier work with Andrea True and their classic, “More, More, More” leaves no wonder as how his talent marked an era with sophistication and disco magnitude. “Island Boogie” is from the Star Cruiser album and features lead vocals by Gordon Grody and back up from Diva Gray and Jocelyn Brown.

I have taken the album version to extend and play with a new ReStructure Mix giving way to more of that uplifting feel and fierce production by Diamond. It has always been one of my favorite tracks from Gregg Diamond and covers his lush strings and funky guitar arrangements completely.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to the memory of this maestro – Mr. Gregg Diamond (1949-1999)

ReStructure Mix Update (5/25/19) “Funky Bee Bop” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Vin Zee

ReStructure Mix Update (5/25/19) “Funky Bee Bop” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Vin Zee

Vin Zee Is an Italian project from Luciano Ninzatti and Stefano Pulga – both worked on projects from Kano (“I’m Ready”. “Another Life”). Their work in the early 80’s helped to create a path for Italo-disco as a progressive dance genre for its time. “Funky Bee Bop” is a slick electronic dance number that echoes a touch of rap-like vocals in a course of vocoders and funky keyboards. The use of heavy bass and synthesizers outlining the arrangement are the familiar use which gives it an identifiable sound as Kano and many projects of the time period. This one is a sharp twist from the fantasy and space themes of the time and makes more of a street statement for the Italo-disco team.

I have taken the 12” vocal and dub of “Funky Bee Bop” and re-used the pieces that tick here into a new ReStructure Mix. This time around the vocals are placed within a space which breaks down the groove into more of a surprise for those like to move. The Italian disco edge is taken in with a dub feel and used as it is.

REISSUE: "Boogie Oogie Oogie" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - A Taste Of Honey

A Taste Of Honey was Janice Marie Johnson, Hazel Payne, Perry Kimble, and Donald Johnson - their 1978 hit "Boogie Oogio Oogie" is a dance floor must for any retro act.

The track emphasized an allegiance to the disco ball from it's first sound. It was disco magic and continues to bring the funk and bass of disco music together in a tight little package.

ReStructuring a well-known classic is a bit un-nerving. I did it with a bit of fantasy for lengthier breaks and a breakdown after each chorus. I dedicate this to my partner Ken, who came from heavy-metal but since has learned respect and the full meaning of disco music. With love!

Thank you, Ken :)

REISSUE: "Blame It On The Boogie” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Jacksons

REISSUE:  "Blame It On The Boogie” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Jacksons

The Jackson’s recorded “Blame It On The Boogie” in 1978 – from their album “Destiny”. A package that brought the group into the disco realm once again with the touch of soul and boogie blended to perfection. The song was co-written by Mick Jackson who recorded a big disco single in 1979 titled “Weekend”. It is another one of Michael Jackson’s vocals where he takes the song and makes it work in more ways than one. It is a classic Jackson recording and also has been remade several times as it is notable as a disco statement.

I have taken the album version of “Blame It On The Boogie” and created a ReStructure Mix with more of a dub-edge to work the “boogie” theme in a new way. It is a stretch from the modest album version and is intended to pay homage to this talented band.

REISSUE: “Boogie To The Bop” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Mantus

REISSUE:  “Boogie To The Bop” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Mantus

Mantus is Billy Armendola, Frank DeCrescenzo, Jimmy Maer and Kenny Bee – a New York City based band who took over dance floors with their big disco project, “Midnight Energy” in 1979. The big hits were “(Dance It) Freestyle Rhythm” and “Rock It To The Top” – the production by Will Crittendon was a force of percussion and funky disco grooves. One of the albums which every cut was playable and packed dance floors. The second album titled “Mantus” was released in 1980 and contained the big dance floor jammer, “Boogie To The Bop” which was one of the big hits in my club at the time.

I have taken the album version of “Boogie To The Bop” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix to bring the slight rap-piece into a new sound. Using pieces of a classic rap gem and also breaking the percussion into bits and pieces. It is has a longer play than the original and much more of the parts which make this one a hit.

REISSUE: "Boogie Walk" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Susan Stevens

REISSUE:  "Boogie Walk" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Susan Stevens

Susan Stevens released her third electronic dance single in 1983 titled “Boogie Walk” and produced by the Canadian team of Gino D’ Orazio and Tony Bentivegna. This duo gave us many of the dance singles filling in the gap from new-wave, synth-pop and disco with a sound of percolating bass and keyboards in a disco-esque feel. Susan Stevens released many singles which followed the disco anthem feel with themes of love, heartbreak and dance celebration. “Boogie Walk” is the dance anthem referencing the need for the elements of disco needed for her feet to move. A fun disco number with the 80s transition sound in full order.

I have taken the original 12” version of “Boogie Walk” and created a ReStructure Mix which blends more of the synths bongos and a cameo from The Rooftop Singers 1962 hit, “Walk Right In” – using appropriate lines to accent Susan’s “boogie”!

REISSUE: “Boogie With Me” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Poussez!

REISSUE:  “Boogie With Me” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Poussez!

Poussez! Is a disco project from Alphonse Mouzon and features the incredible vocals of Christine Wiltshire – also known for Musique, Aural Exciters, Phreek, Revanche, DSK and Class Action as well as various backing sessions in soul, funk and disco music. This dance project is brought to life with the lead vocals of Christine along with Holly Oas and Ruderial Blackwell. “Boogie With Me” is one of the sweetest disco tracks with the syncopated rhythms to move it along with the funky keyboards and soaring disco strings. A favorite of mine and another project which I grew to love Christine Wiltshire’s talent even more.

I have taken the album version of “Boogie With Me” and reworked this ReStructure Mix to create a whole new playground for Christine’s vocals and Alphonse’s swift production. This remix is taking the core essence of the production and working it over and over. Added to the chorus is a cameo from M s. Martha Wash.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/24/19) “Boys Do Fall In Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Robin Gibb

ReStructure Mix Update (5/24/19) “Boys Do Fall In Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Robin Gibb

Robin Gibb is one of the voices of the Bee Gees phenomena of the 70’s were funk reared a new face with songs like “Jive Talkin’”. Robin Gibb released his third solo album in 1984 titled “Secret Agent” which included tracks produced by Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa creators of The Shannon Sound (“Let The Music Play”). “Boys Do Fall In Love” is a track with the stamp of these innovators of electronic-street-funk and along with Gibb’s 50’s edge vocal delivery gives this one a unique feel. The track did extremely well as a pop-dance track in many clubs and welcomed the one of the most talented songwriters, producers and artists of the 70’s.

I have taken the 12” version of “Boys Do Fall In Love” and blew out the street-edge and worked more of a dub-underground dance palace feel in this ReStructure Mix. More of the groovy vocal pieces are extended to make this one bring back the return of Robin Gibb on his solo efforts which has always been one of my favorites.

REISSUE: "My Simple Heart" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Carol Douglas

Carol Douglas is the First Lady of Disco when you look back in time at her start and continuance to give to the disco/dance community. Her recording career began in 1963 with the recording of her single "I Don't Mind (Being Your Fool)" - following a hiatus she returned in 1975 with the now disco classic "Doctor's Orders".

"My Simple Heart" brought Carol into the 80s following a long disco-ride in the 70s. The track was originally recorded by Three Degrees in 1978 - Carol delivers the song again in a funky 80s arrangement.

I have ReStructured the original 12" single and broke the song down into several breaks and re-looping back into the lovely verses and the powerful chorus. It is a great track to feel free with and also raise the power of love five pegs up!

REISSUE: "Circles" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Atlantic Starr

REISSUE: "Circles" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Atlantic Starr

Atlantic Starr (formerly Newban) is a soul, funk, and disco band who were originally produced by Bobby Eli. Their third album titled “Brilliance” from 1982 contained the single “Circles” which featured Sharon Bryant on lead vocals. A love song from a confused participant who is finding it difficult to break away from an unfaithful lover. The production by James Anthony Carmichael is the master of this project. A blend of disco groove with great guitar keyboards and strings.

I have taken the 12” version of “Circles” and created a ReStructure Mix with a new intro and a few percussion fused breaks to slow down the drama and heartbreak. Always a favorite and played out so quickly for the dance floor that an extended version I always fantasized of.

REISSUE: “Tonight’s The Night” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes/Sharon Paige

REISSUE: “Tonight’s The Night” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes/Sharon Paige

Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes have been one foremost Philly soul acts of the early 70s and continued to bring soul to the surface of their recordings. “Tonight’s The Night” is their 1979 album “The Blue Album” produced by Harold Melvin. It is a light disco-funk number that gives guest vocalist, Sharon Paige an opportunity to give a sexy and enticing performance outlining the nightlife scene.

I have taken the original 12” version and worked this ReStructure Mix to give the track my love and thanks for making my dance floor from furious disco beats and make way for a groove that is reminiscent of the early 80s electro-funk sound – but with the sophistication of The Blue Notes joining Sharon for a night of fun and pleasure.

REISSUE: “Your Good Lovin’” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – France Joli

REISSUE:  “Your Good Lovin’” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – France Joli

France Joli is the one disco music’s most exciting voices. Her big dance hit “Come To Me” from 1979 gave the closing of the disco era a crescendo. Her 1980 album “Now!” and her third was a turn for France to the sound which her label, Prelude Records was creating for the 80s – New York Funk. The production by Ray Reid and William Anderson (Crown Heights Affair) gave us an opportunity to hear France and her lovely vocals in a funky setting. “Your Good Lovin’” is the second single from the project following “Gonna Get Over You”. It is another great love song which gives us some slick keyboards and funk beats and was produced by Darryl Payne and Eric Matthew (Sharon Redd. Gary’s Gang) and features an arrangement by Giuliano Salerni (Ultimate, Strange Affair, Bonnie Boyer).

I have taken the original album version and recreated a ReStructure Mix using the loop edits for a new approach. I have extended it for more of France’s outstanding performance and of course the backing vocals of Fonzi Thornton and Dolette McDonald. A funk fest made in New York and branded the same!

REISSUE: "Give Me Tonight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Shannon

REISSUE: "Give Me Tonight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Shannon

Shannon (Brenda Shannon Greene) set the 80s on fire with "Let The Music Play" a brand of New York electro-funk which is know as "The Shannon Sound". This beat-and-kick formula utilizes the scratch mix in more ways than one.

"Give Me Tonight" is the second single from Shannon's debut album and as big - if not bigger - than "Let The Music Play". The sound of the 80s is all hear and may bring back more than you can handle.

I have taken the 12" vocal and dub version to give this song a ReStructure Mix and re-funk the mix with some new elements and emphasizing the work of the original.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Mr. Bob Tiedemann - who I thank for his support and for this request! Go get it, Bob - tonight!

ReStructure Mix Update (5/23/19) “Shake It Up, Shake Your Body” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Suzy Q

Suzy Q is a Canadian disco project which began from a 1981 single titled “Get On Up and Do It Again” – which featured the vocal of Carol Jiani. The success of the single brought a continuance of high energy tracks throughout the end of the 80’s. “Shake It Up, Shake Your Body” is the electronic sound which Suzy Q is formulated as with a touch of electro-funk and the voice encouraging body movement. Produced by Jerry Cucuzella whose electronic dance productions created a new underground sound for Canadian music. Suzy Q under vocalist Michelle Mills in this session works her charming vocals with that disco-femme-funk touch appropriately.

I have taken the 12” version of “Shake It Up, Shake Your Body” and placed the bouncy dance track in a ReStructure Mix adding some new electro-beats below to bring this version alive. More of Suzy Q and her haunting vocals are sprinkled around the new arrangement.

REISSUE: "Cherchez Pas" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Madleen Kane

Jean-Claude Friederich produced Madleen Kane's third project titled, "Sounds Of Love" - another great disco LP from the sexy and beautiful Swedish songstress. The track "Cherchez Pas" was the first single hit the clubs - it was like the rebirth of disco all over again. The blaring horns and the nice touch of "wiry" guitars created a wall of energy under Madleen's sultry vocals. I can recollect that many people would approach my booth asking if this were Deborah Harry singing the song.

"Cherchez Pas" in French means, "don't go looking" or "searching" as in "don't go looking for another" - I believe she is singing about how incomplete her life would be without that special someone next to her in the discotheque.

The track is being divided in this ReStructure to give it a more underground disco feel - with some exploding to accent the power of these breaks.

Dedicated to the guys at Multiply whose love for disco music is the best I have seen.

Judy Cheeks released a sensational disco track titled, "Mellow Lovin'" in 1978 - produced by Anthony Monn (Amanda Lear, Fancy) and the second issue by Salsoul Records mixed by Mr. Tom Moulton.

The track gave disco another opportunity to create a flowing and orchestral feel along with the sensual and yearning sound of the disco diva. Judy takes "Mellow Lovin'" and makes it sound as innocent as it is intended.

I have ReStructured the song and played with some additional bass and beats to pound out more of what this stomp-er is - a hot dance experience with beauty.

REISSUE “Tattoo Man" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Denise McCann

REISSUE “Tattoo Man" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Denise McCann

Denise McCann entered the discotheques in 1976 with a great disco track titled, "Tattoo Man" produced by Guy Sobell.

The track was produced for dance floors and quite innovative for it's time. Peculating percussion along with heavy keyboards assisted by Denise's soft and alluring vocal. The song was a instant hit in underground clubs that welcomed a hardcore disco feel.

Denise later released her follow up LP "I Have A Destiny" in 1979, which again featured a great full-on disco production. Denise later married Randy Bachman of The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive and moved to Canada. Hopefully she continues to record and share her wonderful talent with the world.

I have ReStructured "Tattoo Man" with more of an underground groove in mind - taking the funky guitars deeper with added effects and beat tracks.

REISSUE: "Shoot Me (With Your Love)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Tasha Thomas

REISSUE: "Shoot Me (With Your Love)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Tasha Thomas

From her 1978 debut, Tasha Thomas made a dent in dance floors with funky, sensual and bass driven track, “Shoot Me (With Your Love)”.

Produced by James R. Glaser and Peter Rugile her LP scored several more surprises with “Midnight Rendezvous”, “Hot Buttered Boogie” and “Street Fever”. Tasha’s soulful and sensual delivery made her a memorable experience during this time.

I have taken “Shoot Me (With Your Love)” and cracked the original into pieces and added a new drum track to beef up the already cookin’ track.

REISSUE: “Breakaway” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – First Choice

REISSUE:  “Breakaway” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – First Choice

First Choice is female ensembles who brought the Philly dance sound alive with the soulful and feel of the garage identity which eventually became the house sound of the 80s and 90s. A funk fest of vocals in a disco aura created by Annette Guest, Debbie Martin, Rochelle Fleming, Ursula Herring and Wardell Piper. Their finale album from 1980 contained the title track, “Breakaway” which continued the spirit of that sound of Philadelphia and magic of disco polish. Produced by Norman Harris and Ron Tyson.

I have taken the album version of “Breakaway” and have given it the ReStructure Mix image with more of the guitar pieces and funky bass bounce – adding some new beats and breaks. It is a bit extended with some familiar samples of these ladies who make the night a great place to be!

ReStructure Mix Update (5/22/19) “What’s Love Got To Do With…”-“Two People” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Tina Turner

ReStructure Mix Update (5/22/19) “What’s Love Got To Do With…”-“Two People” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Tina Turner

Tina Turner is one of the artists of the 60’s and 70’s whose energy seemed to never falter. Through a career in rock n’ roll, country, soul, and a dabble in disco she managed to pull upfront in the 80’s with her 1984 album “Private Dancer” made waves bigger than ever. A return to the stage brought respect and several pop and club hits during the 80’s and gave us more of Tina’s unique vocal delivery and a more sensitive edge. “What’s Love Got To Do With It” is the track which became an anthem for Tina’s life is one of the tracks which brings us a whole new side and along with “Two People” from 1986 displays a sensitive feel. Both were accepted well by fans and even today give a new side of long career and its shifting throughout time.

I have taken “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and “Two People” to create a ReStructure Mix using parts of these songs which outline this double pairing in a new way. Both were great songs for me and I enjoyed spinning them for early evening crowds and afterhours.

Sister Sledge brought the disco era to the peak with their big 1979 anthem “We Are Family” – produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. The sound of Chic was a successful blend with the ladies and their lovely harmony and positive attitudes. During in the early 80s when a funky-edge was being applied to the shift in dance music another anthem was again delivered. “All American Girls” is their 1981 hit produced by up and coming hit-master Narada Michael Walden.

I have taken the album version of “All American Girls” and worked a new ReStructure Mix using the rhythm and bass guitars play a few new pieces to give the track a new energy. The groove of Narada’s disco influence are the sheer magic of the song.

REISSUE: “Taste Of Bitter Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gladys Knight & The Pips

REISSUE: “Taste Of Bitter Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gladys Knight & The Pips

Gladys Knight and The Pips released their project “About Love” in 1980 – produced by Nikolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Another peak for Gladys, The Pips and Ashford and Simpson it focuses on the four letter word and emotions brought to a soulful level. “Taste Of Bitter Love” is a mid-tempo dance track that was one of the biggest in my club and is celebrated here with a new energy and arrangement. It is one of those moments again where Gladys shines wonderfully and brings out the feelings that make love and heartbreak one of humanities great rewards and lessons.

I have taken the album version onto the ReStructure Mix chopping block and present this gentle giant with a new intro and some breaks that drop in and out for energy. It is a great piece of work with that mixture of soul, disco and rhythm and blues.

REISSUE: “You Gotta Believe” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Pointer Sisters

REISSUE: “You Gotta Believe” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Pointer Sisters

The Pointer Sister brought a ‘bit of light’ to the 1976 film “Car Wash” – which may have been the first soul/disco musical to hit the 70s scene. “You Gotta Believe” is one of the memorable moments in the motion picture and the song written by Henry Garner and Lequeint “Duke” Jobe of Rose Royce is one the most rhythmic pieces from the genius production by Norman Whitfield. One of the toppers of this great 70s musical epic.

I have taken the short (2:51) double album soundtrack version and created this ReStructure Mix adding a few new percussion and drum elements to kick up the bouncy rhythms and those soulful and groovy Pointer Sister vocals.
