“El Watusi/La Bamba” by Rags and Riches – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“El Watusi/La Bamba” by Rags and Riches – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Rags and Riches is a disco project from Bobby Ragona and Vinny DePaola and features a medley of two rock n’ roll classics derived from a 60s dance craze and a Mexican folk number, “El Watusi” and “La Bamba”. This medley was a popular track in clubs who favored the heavy Latin percussion and creative blend of the two classics. It ends with a full on celebration.

I have taken the medley and created a Disco Video Mix utilizing the 2014 salsa comedy, “Cuban Fury” starring Nick Frost and Rashida Jones. The flames from the tangled and un-tangling of partners blend with the mood of the disco medley well. It is homage to the salsa form and the excitement it presents. This Video Mix uses more of the films finale and some of the warm up scenes to keep up with the disco fuse.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/22/15) “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Spinners

ReStructure Mix Update (5/22/15) “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Spinners

Spinners are a soul group whom began recording in 1967 and carry a recognizable harmony which is soothing and loving. Their single from 1972 “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love” is one of the big radio tracks in soul/rhythm and blues and continues to mark the old school genre with its wonderful beauty.  The love song brings emotion to life with the start of the love which only gives promise and is arranged with the classic early pop-soul formula that is the best of the time. The arrangement and production are by Thom Bell.

I have taken the album version of “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love” and created a ReStructure Mix using edits of the beautiful strings and vibes displayed in a new intro and closing. The lovely feel of both lead and backing vocals always make this one a special treat. More of the verses are also pieced in this new remix to make the feeling of love and excitement last longer.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/12/15) “Situation” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Yaz

ReStructure Mix Update (5/12/15) “Situation” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Yaz

Yaz (known as Yazoo in the U.S.) is Vince Clarke and vocalist Alison Moyet. Their music brought the 80s into a new phase of dance music known as synth-pop and introduced the powerful voice Alison over the electronic formation of Clarke’s nu-wav vs. funky grooves. “Situation” is from the project “Upstairs At Eric’s” from 1982 and was an outline for their new style and success. The early 80s made their move easier since much of the dance circuits were looking for a new underground sound. It was the formation of a new dance era.

I have taken the single “Situation” into the ReStructure Mix outline and played with the classic sounds from the original 12” vocal and dub. Working on completing an arrangement completely odd to the dance mix and yet keeping the power-moments intact in a new manner. It is one of the great remix opportunities for the double 12” vinyl war I fought with each night in the clubs to present a new version each night during peak hour. And now done with the ReStructure Mix formula and mood.

“Robbots” by Space – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Robbots” by Space – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Space is a French disco group created with Didier Marouani and Roland Romanelli. Their impact on the history of disco music introduced a new age feel with the electronic wave taking an orchestral curve. Many compositions from their various projects are beautiful pieces which fall into a category of their own. Their single “Robbots” was a B-side to “Tender Force” – it was the sound of Space with the thumping bass painting a 70s drama in their wonderful and recognizable formula.

I have created a Disco Video Mix with “Robbots” using scenes from the 2008 computer animated sci-fi comedy film, “WALL-E” – from Pixar Animation Studios. Our robot named WALL-E and his journey from a deserted waste covered Earth to outer space is fitting for the Space disco track.

“Music Colours” (Part 3) by Cellophane – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Music Colours” (Part 3) by Cellophane – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Cellophane is an Italian disco project from Alessandro Novaga and Giorgio Pagnanni. Their single “Music Colours” is an electronic masterpiece of artistic and innovative dance music. The 12” consists of 3 parts to the track where “Part 1” is a melodic salute to a new fusion – Music Colours where the sounds in “Part 3” emulate water colors brushing and stroking a canvas with a rolling piano part and segments of striking keys and drum rolls breaking down the energy. It is one of my favorite of 1984 and a unique sound that always reminded me of the Boris Midney nuance of the late 70s.

I have taken the 1984 drama “Amadeus” – starring F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce in the period piece in which composer Antonio Salleri discovers the music genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during the 18th century. The orchestral feel of the disco piece uses parts and images of the film to create a new canvas for the disco overture.
