Linda Imperial is one of high-energy music’s lasting talents. Her recording career in the trio called Loverde featuring Frank Loverde, Peggy Gibbons and Linda - releasing big clubs hits “Die Hard Lover” in 1982 and eventually going solo in 1985 where she recorded her own dance floor classics “Stranger”, “Fire”, “Killing Me Softly”, “Get Here” and “Where The Boys Are” from 1998 - produced by Chris Cox. Linda’s treatment of the 1960 Connie Francis song “Where The Boys Are” and also from the light hearted comedy/romance film by the same name is flawless. The energy is driven by Chris’ pumping techno arrangement and presents a stage for Linda’s fabulous rendition of this classic. This single also gives us an opportunity to hear Linda’s vocal range and dedication to her craft.

I have taken the 12” versions of Linda’s “Where The Boys Are” and pieced parts of the three versions into one concise ReStructure Mix. There is a bit of play using Linda’s lush-notes and a few new breakdowns to give this track a new identity.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/24/25):”Don’t Lose The Magic” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Shawn Christopher

Shawn Christopher gave house music a lift in the early 90’s. During a transition where the deep bass and beats were formulating a rave and techno fusion tracks like Shawn’s “Another Sleepless Night” were integrating the best of Chicago house and the new dance floor sound of the early 90s. “Don’t Lose The Magic” is her 1992 release from her project which was produced by Mike "Hitman" Wilson. This love sonnet is a melodic track with the pumping bass along with Shawn making us believe in her own “magic”. This one is the weapon a man in the booth would save for that moment on the dance floor when ears and feet were at their most alert and ready to move.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Don’t Lose The Magic” and reignited the fire again for this new ReStructure Mix. I have used pieces of the piano and bass arrangements in new parts to give the song a new entry.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/21/25):”Running From Paradise” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Hall and Oates

Daryl Hall and John Oates are a pop duo who began recording in 1972 and released projects throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. The disco era brought many artists and bands onto the dance floor to create their own magic in the disco world. Hall and Oates released their 1979 project titled “X-Static” with their track “Running From Paradise” blending their harmonies in a song which outlines a suitor attempting to lure a love interest into a more than rewarding situation. The heavy drum beats, bongos and electronic riffs are the elements which make this duo use their own flair in a new genre of music for their repertoire. 

I have taken the 12” version of “Running From Paradise” and re-edited the piece into a new ReStructure Mix giving the duo a new stage. More of the frenetic and melodic pieces of the song are highlighted and mixed into a new arrangement.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/7/25):”Secret Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Viola Wills

Viola Wills is a landmark dance artist whose career during the 70’s and 80’s brought many magical moments to the disco floor. Her voice is a gentle interpretation of love, heartbreak and life’s wonders in many of her songs. “Secret Love” is Viola’s cover of the 1953 Doris Day track from the film “Calamity Jane” - and is produced by Jerry McCabe and was featured on her 1980 album, “If You Could Read My Mind” and then re-released in 1989 with a remix by Martin Rex. This beautiful number is again given the Viola treatment where verses are gentle and sweet yet the chorus takes us to a crescendo of energy as she belts out the confession. It is surely one of he memorable recordings and gives the original a lasting legacy.

I have taken the 1989 12” remix of “Secret Love” and placed a new reference to energy for this ReStructure Mix. A new downbeat along with percussion is added to assist the rolling bass sequencers into a new arena.

Bionic Boogie is a disco ensemble created by producer, musician and arranger Gregg Diamond during the mid-70’s. The studio vocal sessions included Gwen Guthrie, Luther Vandross, Cissy Houston, Zach Saunders, Ullanda McCullough and David Lasley. The formulation of Bionic Boogie holds the fusion of funk and soul into disco creating an orchestrated arrangement along with the guitars branding a more sophisticated flair. “Paradise” is from their 1978 project titled “Hot Butterfly” which becomes the project where it is evident each vocal movement has become arranged by Luther Vandross. The layering of vocals on this track gives off a magic which works with Diamond’s arrangements and moves this second recording for Bionic Boogie a step further for disco accolades during this period: the heyday of disco music.

I have taken the album version of “Paradise” and moved to take the excitement and masterful production of the original into a new ReStructure Mix. New down beats are added along with fierce bongos to give way to a new thrill for those who know this track and Diamond’s genius.

Samantha Gilles is a high-energy artist produced by Fonny De Wolf (Rofo, Lazer Dance, Michael Bow, Charity and Bianca). The voice is the alluring sweetness which disco music made a staple of. “Music Is My Thing” is a serenade from Samantha where she exclaims the excitement of her motivation behind the talent. More in the energy of tracks which are smooth and yet contain the high-energy ingredients like heavy beats, rolling bass and percussion. This 1985 single is from her project “Love 4-2” which also has her big club hit, “Let Me Feel It”. A lyrical piece of high energy with a mild approach and Samantha laying down her sound to move to.

I have taken the 12” version of “Music Is My Thing” and re-edited a new ReStructure Mix in tribute to Mr. De Wulf and Ms. Gilles. The  percussion is laid over a new drum pattern which carries the new remix into a new experience.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/2/25):”Jump The Gun” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Three Degrees

The Three Degrees are Sheila Ferguson, Valerie Holiday and Fayette Pinkney - and their big disco project from 1978 is “New Dimensions” produced by Giorgio Moroder.  This being one of the sensations of music for the time period: the vocals of The Three Degrees and the sharp electronic sound of Moroder. “Jump The Gun” is from their 1979 follow-up project titled “3D” which was also produced by Giorgio Moroder. This ticket was yet another disco gem for both producer and the ladies where the project provided the right balance of dance/disco tracks along with beautiful ballads. “Jump The Gun” is the headliner warning from the ladies warning an excitable beau that taking the steps slowly is the only way to move on in romance. The heavy guitar work gives the song a touch of disco/rock along with the Degrees burning up the track.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Jump The Gun” and reshot the message again for this ReStructure Mix. Moroder’s classic sequencer parts and moog keyboards are used in parts and loops to recreate a new experience for this teasing number.
