REISSUE: "I’m Totally Yours" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Hi-Gloss Hi-Gloss is a studio project from disco producer Giuliano Salerni – who also brought us the classic disco project Ultimate, Bonnie Boyer’s disco classic “Got To Give Into Love”, a Euro-disco group titled Strange Affair from 1980 and also produced a few tracks for France Joli on her “Now!” project. Salerni brings a unique sound to disco music which always reminded me of a symphony out in space with a groove. Much like the effect which Boris Midney brought with U.S.A. European Connection. A groove or disco beat is set out in an empty space that is ethereal always comes to mind. Hi-Gloss features some great vocalists in this session including Phillip Ballou, Luther Vandross, Maeretha Stewart and Ullanda McCullough. A project that was definitely influenced by the first project from Jacques Fred Petrus’ Change. “I’m Totally Yours” is the sweet disco ballad which tells a love story of dedication and satisfaction. One of the great Prelude Records landmarks in time. I have taken the album version of “I’m Totally Yours” and recreated a magic ReStructure Mix to encompass that dreamy feeling that Salerni creates in his arrangements and productions. A bit more of the separation of percussion and vocals work throughout this mix. It is one of my favorite funk sweeteners of all time and now can be felt in a whole new way.

The Quick is Colin Campsie and George McFarlane – a duo from England who created a brand of high energy and synth-pop tracks that framed the end of 1979. “Sharks Are Cool, Jets Are Hot” and “Young Men Drive Fast” gave a new edge vocal wise to the pumping disco beat and the percussion driven rhythms. An early stage for the keyboard driven dance music of the 80s. Their single “Rhythm Of The Jungle” was featured on their album “One Light In A Blackout” and followed in the lower-tempo tracks of their success in 1981. I have taken the 12” version of “Rhythm Of The Jungle” – mixed by Jay Mark and John Luongo to create a new laid out version – ReStructure Mix – with some breaks to space apart the jungle energy and vibe. It is a favorite piece of driving synth-pop and gives disco music that adventurous feel that it has always been known for!

Cheri is disco group from Montreal - Amy Roslyn and Rosalind Hunt (Geraldine Hunt's daughter and Freddie James' sister). Their first self-titled LP from 1982 featured their first big disco hit, "Murphy's Law". "Working Girl" is from their Lp "Love Stew" from 1983 which was also a bug club record thanks to its bouncy house-like feel with a sassy, yet lyrical vocal. I have taken the 12" of "Working Girl" and have given it a ReStructure Mix and work-over - creating another opportunity to "work it"!

Two Sisters are Theresa and Tracey Pesco and an electronic production with a blend of hip-hop, Latin and disco touches. The New York sound during the early 80s being polished by many of the dee-jays, engineers and producers of the Disconet era became one the progressive faucets of dance music and tracks like “Destiny” brought a blend of various styles together in the new tradition. This piece produced by Mark Berry who also gave us numbers from Amy Bolton, Roni Griffith, Poussez!, Bonnie Forman and more. His touch was more of the sound of underground dance music with a pop flair – a perfect blend for the early 80s. I have taken the 12” vocal and “Desti-Dub” from the Sugarscoop Records vinyl and recreated a more ethereal feeling mix in the ReStructure Mix edge. This one was a big hit for me a favorite since I first heard those street beats pounding as the Latin percussion danced over them. A new dance trip for those who take the 80s dance scene seriously.

Gino Soccio is one of the second wave of disco artists to become a major innovator - following in the footsteps of Giorgio Moroder - using technology and band elements to create a a new disco sound. His first LP "Outline" is held as one of the most influential projects of the time - the big disco hits, "Dancer" and "The Visitors" are the proof.

I have taken "Hold Tight" from Soccio's 1981 album "Closer" and have given it a ReStructure Mix to add a new dimension of rhythm and effect-s to the mix. It was never featured as a 12" mix and so the mood was on when I thought of placing a new edit and remix to this bouncy and infectious tune.

REISSUE: "Pushin' Too Hard" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Paul Parker Patrick Cowley and Paul Parker together in 1982 is a landmark in disco history. Cowley's trippy synthetic arrangements were a part of the late 70's with studio bands like Fever ("Beat Of The Night") and also many of Sylvester's hit dance tracks (ex. "Dance (Disco Heat)" and "Stars") - it was the blood flowing through the veins of early high energy disco. Paul Parker has continued to bring his wonderful vocals throughout the early period of high energy from the San Francisco disco movement of the 80's to present. His accomplishments only outline his dedication to the craft and his own heart. "Pushin' Too Hard" is a rock classic recorded by The Seeds in 1966 - Paul does a excellent job following the energy of Cowley's keyboard magic and emphasizes the desperation well. I have ReStructured this special B-side from the original 12" (was not available on Paul's first LP) and added a familiar riff and also some percussion, breakdowns and took advantage of that wonderful percussion loop ala Cowley!

His big debut single “Right On Target” is the masterpiece of 80s dance music and represents resurgence from the San Francisco Bay area where disco music never rested or ceased. His dedication to move hearts and feet on the dance floor lasts even today. From 2013 his collaboration with UK high energy producer Ian Anthony Stephens is a Euro-house cover of the 1987 track from Johnny Hates Jazz – “Shattered Dreams”. I have taken the song and blended it with the sci-fi thriller “Dreamscape” starring Dennis Quaid – a dream world tale of psychics traveling into troubled individuals dreams to assist in healing. With artists like Sylvester who brought the city to the disco world map around the world even during a time when disco music slowly lessoned in the market place and became an underground art once again. Paul worked closely with producer and artist Patrick Cowley during the late 70s and early 80s during the electronic high energy movement when dance music was overhauled and repackaged for a new period. “Time After Time” is a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s 1983 ballad with a high energy focus. Produced by high energy producer Ian Anthony Stephens who made the 80s high energy movement works with many of his productions by Marsha Raven, The Flirtations and Hazell Dean. This cover was a nice touch for dance floors to remember disco/dance history of years prior. I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental to recreate a fantasy-form of ReStructure Mix with Paul’s wonder vocal and Ian’s simple yet effective production. It is laid out with looping and more vocals from the original. Grab a fan and stand on the sidelines and you may understand how high energy became beautiful and energetic

I have taken his 1983 track “Shot In The Night” from his “Too Much Too Dream” project and have given the 12” remix a ReStructure Mix to bring the track new life. It has a longer intro with extended drums from the original track and also some added pieces from Patrick Cowley’s classic “Menergy”. This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Mr. Paul Parker – who continues to bring us his wonderful sound even today.

K.C. and the Sunshine Band are the cream in a cup of disco. Their music changed the sound of dance music during the mid-70 and created what was known as the Miami Sound and then disco music. Their classic songs “That’s The Way (I Like It)” and “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty” helped to pave the market for a disco boom during the mid and late 70’s. “Give It Up” is a track from 1982 and works within the 80’s shift in dance music for K.C. since his iconic sound was a force within itself. His signature rhythm guitars are the pulse of the music.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Give It Up” and worked a new ReStructure Mix to give this one a facelift with more breaks and those fantastic guitar riffs. It is a chance to feel that magic sound of this band and their classic sound.

REISSUE: “Never Can Say Goodbye” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Sonia and Nancy “Never Can Say Goodbye” is a classic soul song originally recorded by The Jackson Five in 1971 and released on their “Maybe Tomorrow”. The song has since been covered by many artists and groups – in the disco realm more notably by Gloria Gaynor in the 70s and The Communards in the 80’s. High energy music brought a synth-pop version in 1986 and produced by high-energy extraordinaire, Mr. Fonny De Wulf who sprinkled the 80’s with the sound of this new sensational dance floor recipe. Sonia and Nancy recorded this single as their one and only release which made many playlist for jocks who were spinning to the crowds who could not get enough of the rolling energy. The production by De Wulf is the flowing feel of the song of heartbreak along with more percussion and synthesizers. I have taken the 12” version of Sonia and Nancy’s “Never Can Say Goodbye” and used pieces of the deep hardcore elements to recreate this ReStructure Mix. It pays homage to this sound of the 80’s which kept many dancing throughout the period and even today.

This single from Italy was a sensation in releasing what was to become a new synthetic dance sound. Produced by Arena, A. Puglia and T. Perrett and mixed by Michael Graber. Quite a pulse on this one - it never stops. Interesting enough a remake of Pink Floyd's psychedelic piece from 1976. ReStructured into a flowing extended piece with more effects and loops. This powerhouse Italo-disco package is the exceptional growth of their projects like Macho, Change, B.B. & Q Band and various independent artists in the disco realm. “Thank You Baby” is one of the fast paced tracks with the roaring synthesizers and horns guiding the energy in the right directions. Included on backing vocals are Christine Wiltshire and Krystal Davis. I have taken the album version of “Thank You Baby” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix for this fabulous piece. I have focused more on the rhythm and breaks to provide an ample remix. Added drums and breaks are more of the challenge here.

REISSUE: "Counting On Love (One, Two, Three)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Peter Jacques Band Peter Jacques Band is studio band from disco producer Jacques Fred Petrus and composer and arranger Mauro Malavasi. "Fire Night Dance" was their first Lp from 1978 and changed the disco scene to a high energy mode. It was electronic dance music in it's early stages along with a full disco orchestration. "Welcome Back" is the second album from 1980 and contained the single "Counting On Love (One, Two, Three)" which is a fast paced disco extravaganza with the energy level of a Studio 54 dance floor. The album was a departure to a new era of dance music and did so appropriately. I have taken the album version of "Counting On Love (One, Two, Three)" and have given it a ReStructure Mix focusing on much of the riffs and fast paced synthesizer pulses.
