REISSUE: "Willie and The Hand Jive" by Rinder and Lewis - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera Rinder and Lewis released a project titled “Warriors” in 1979 – their work has always been instrumental in formulating disco music during the mid and late 70's. Discognosis, El Coco, In Search Of Orchestra, Le Pamplemousse, Saint Tropez, and Tuxedo Junction were some of their outstanding contributions to the dance era. “Warriors” was a disco venture, which outlined a few hits from the 60’s dance floor – luckily they took on a cover of Johnny Otis’ “Willie and The Hand Jive” – but on disco terms. The percolating synthesizers and percussion work this track as if it were created for the disco beats and along a persuasive vocal. This has always been one track that I honored as deep-rooted disco. Taking the 1988 John Waters’s comedy “Hairspray” and applying it to this track hit me and is now a new take on 60’s meets 70’s. Ricki Lake, Divine, Jerry Stiller, Deborah Harry, Ruth Brown and Sonny Bono are among the talent that has kept this film alive even today. Waters created a true classic with this project. REISSUE: “It’s Time To Party Now” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ray Parker Jr./Raydio Ray Parker Jr. is a producer, musician and songwriter from Detroit, Michigan whose work in the 70s dance arena included Love Unlimited Orchestra. His blend of funk, disco and pop is the sound which helped the early 80s to appreciate a groove and slick arrangements he created. His four albums with Raydio from the late 70s are a funk venture with the groove which helped to move a new era of electronic dance music to life in the early 80s. “It’s Time To Party Now” is from the album “Two Places At The Same Time” and became one of the anthems of disco-funk. I have taken the album version of “It’s Time To Party Now” is taken into the ReStructure Mix arena and chopped and rearranged with the elements that stood out for me. This was a great segue into a funk set and lower bpm dance tracks. A whole new reason to celebrate that 80s period of sheer purpose to hit the dance floor.

Bell & James 1978 disco hit “Livin’ It Up (Friday Night”)” is still a classic on the disco round or old school. It emphasizes the reason discotheques became the relaxation spas of the 70’s. This combination of Robert Stigwood’s 1977 film, “Saturday Night Fever” along with John Travolta and repeats the era again with a twist on the dance floor. “Fever” was never a pro-disco film – there were many implications of doom and despair. I have attempted to add more of the excitement of the dancing and the weekend flair into this Disco Video Mix. From the original Broadway cast of "Dreamgirls" the very lovely and talented Sheryl Lee Ralph wondered into the disco arena in the mid-80's. Her anthem and stay-power piece "In The Evening" was one of the most exciting tracks of the time. A taste of Sheryl's wonderful vocals and a street-disco feel. I have taken the track deeper in the streets of New York with a darker intro and working the percussion into a slight edge. This one makes Sheryl eel as though she means what she is singing about. REISSUE: “Club Tropicana” by WHAM! – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera WHAM! Is the British duo from 1981 – George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley who made the 80s a bubbly and fun place to dance. Much of the music from the group was set in the timeline of the music video era and crossover from disco to then dance-pop. “Club Tropicana” is from their first album titled “Fantastic” from 1983 – produced by George Michael and Steve Brown. I have taken the album version of this celebratory and uplifting song and set it to none other than the Tropicana Club from the classic television comedy series, “I Love Lucy” – from day one of hearing this track I needed to do what needed to be done. ReStructure Mix Update (4/24/20) “Chemical Romance” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – X-Factor

X-Factor is an 80’s electronic disco project from producer/artist Steve Swindells with their single “Chemical Romance” released in 1982. The vocals are provided by
Carol Kenyon – an English singer whose voice may also be heard on Heaven 17’s “Temptation”. This track was released during the new cycle of synth-pop which incorporated a twist of nu-wave and a light rock edge to provide the feel of the alternative dance sound coming from new U.K. dance bands. The track feels like a disco era space track without the lush strings and heavy percussion.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Chemical Romance” and have given it a ReStructure Mix with a longer intro to the fantastic vocal by Carol. The arrangement utilizes more of the instrumental and fades out with the rhythm guitar playing out.

REISSUE: "Thank God There’s Music” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Theo Vaness Theo Vaness is a disco singer from The Netherlands who was sang with a Dutch band called The Shoes. His first album featured a medley of classic pop hits in a disco medley and appropriately titled “Back To Music”. The productions provided by Michael, Lana and Paul Sebastian reflected the Euro influence on disco music with a New York feel. “Thank God For Music” is from Theo’s third album and one of my favorites as it brings the disco era to a wonderful close in celebrating the music. It is an anthem that plays out well again for Theo as his vocals create a unique feel and energy. I have taken the album version of “Thank God There’s Music” and reworked a ReStructure Mix that gives the tracks riffs more placement and an extended message. More of the chorus is reworked for a message that should always continue.

Theo Vaness became one of disco most distinctive male voices once he recorded "Back To Music" in 1977. Under the production and creativity of Michaele, Lana Sebastian and Paul Sebastian an innovative Euro-disco style was formulated. "Bad Bad Boy" was his follow up LP in 1979 and featured dance floor classics, "Sentimentally It's You", "As Long As It's Love" and "No Romance/Keep On Dancin'" - a well noted project. I have taken "Bad Bad Boy" and ReStructured it with looping the synthesizers and adding a new peculating electronic track to enhance it. This song is definite favorite of mine. REISSUE: “Nobody But You” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Theo Vaness Theo Vaness (Theo van Es) is a Dutch singer who is also known for his vocal with the band The Shoes from the late 60s and early 70s. His appearance as a disco artist in 1978 with his project “Back To Music” – produced by Boona Music (Michaéle, Lana and Paul Sebastian). Theo’s unique sound brought a new distinction to the Euro-disco sound which began a new wave of club music and helping to ignite the disco fusion of the mid and late 70s. “Nobody But You” is a single from the “Back To Music” album and is one of his most beautiful love songs. The production follows the strip down disco format which soon became the norm for dance music. I have taken the album version of “Nobody But You” and re-edited elements to create a new ReStructure Mix adding a few new percussion parts to enhance the smooth track. It was always a heartfelt song for me and also has many great vocal riffs from Theo which made him an artist that dance floors recognized immediately with each new dance release.

After his first LP "Back To Music" in 1978 his disco fame came easily and very welcomed. Produced by Michaele, Lana Sebastian and Paul Sebastian his disco work is well known by audiophiles and dancers. "Sentimentally It's You" is a track from his "Bad, Bad Boy" LP from 1979 and remains a favorite among many who hold high energy and romantic themes close to heart. An excellent breath of disco magic. I have taken the track in a ReStructure area and created a new intro, rearranged and looped some very memorable moments from this giant. Dedicated to Theo and his niece, Loulou from The Netherlands

REISSUE: “As Long As It's Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Theo Vaness Theo Vaness is a Dutch singer with a great reputation on the dance floor - his initial solo project "Back To Music" in 1978 (produced by Michaele, Lana and Paul Sebastian) is one of the earliest successful medleys in the disco vein. His follow up LP "Bad Bad Boy" in 1979 is still resonating from the contents: "Sentimentally It's You" and "No Romance/Keep on Dancing" - and this ReStructure take on the anthem, "As Long As It's Love". The track has a great feel and purpose - exclaiming love and understanding. It is a classic in it's own right. This mix takes pieces and assembles the track into a new extended mix. Dedicated to Loulou from The Netherlands and her uncle, Theo Vaness

Lama is an Italo-disco project from producers La Drogueria Di Drugolo and Quelli Del Castello – and arranged by Celso Valli (Nuggets, Tantra, Passengers, V.I.S.A.,
Adal-Scandy Super Band, and Azoto. “Nineteen Ninety Three” is a single released under the title Lama – a pseudo name for the ensemble with more of the mystery and intrigue that Tantra created with “Hills Of Kat Mandu” in 1979. This one works on a mystifying vocal which seems to predict that better times await the planet from 1983 – when this 12” was released. A bit eerie and captures that feeling of soaring out over the realm of reality. Another Celso Valli masterpiece in his talent at arranging and brings a new edge to Italo-disco.

I have taken the 12” version of “Nineteen Ninety Three” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix with a more phasing and swirling feel. Focusing on the intro as a lead in to the mystery of what this songs really means.

“REISSUE: Cocoon” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Timerider Timerider is an electronic disco project from Tess (alias Fancy or Manfred Alois Segieth) who takes his sound into a hardcore instrumental. “Cocoon” uses the logo from the 1985 film and although the composition has no affiliation to the soundtrack from the film this piece still soars as if we were missing a part of the film. The sequencers in this production give way to robotic sound that becomes invigorated with beautiful synthetic strings and horns. It was as if a new score had been recreated by Manfred for the films purpose. This track may remind you of the old disco movie soundtrack themes that either Barry White or Meco would have worked on with this arrangement using more electronic percussion and drums to pound out the melody. It is one of my favorite instrumentals from the time. I have taken the 12” version of “Cocoon” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix using the sequencer bass synths as a new riff throughout. It is a bit more of a dub version however the synthesized horns and strings remain intact.

REISSUE: “Move Up” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Margie M. Marie M. is an Italo-disco artist who released her only 12” single in 1987 where the A-side was a melodic dance track titled “China Boy” and the B-side a mystifying and moody number titled “Move Up”. The production by Cay Hume echoes the dance scene of the mid 80’s with the rolling bass and light keyboards. I focused more on the track “Move Up” since I enjoyed the early morning sound that emerges from it. I have always wanted to give it more of the fantasy it deserves. I have taken the 12” version of “Move Up” and reworked this lengthier and more destined journey in this ReStructure Mix. A familiar chant and some percussion are added from a classic which follows the same mood.

Boris Midney is one of the earliest innovators of disco/dance music in the late 70s. His approach with disco music in his first two projects USA European Connection and Beautiful Bend were a blend of female chorus in Philly style along with a futuristic and electronic orchestra. His style was one which perplexed many whose ideas and rhythm were following the standard. It was not long before this underground disco style became a classic among itself and influenced many producers and artists in the upcoming disco arena. “Yoda’s Theme” is from Boris Midney’s 1980 album which featured “Music From The Empire Strikes Back” scored by John Williams. Midney had already progressed into a new rhythmic and jazz fused edge which was heard in his projects Festival, Masquerade and Caress. With “Yoda’s Theme” Midney does not hold back from using what imagination brought along with score. I have taken the album version of “Yoda’s Theme” and gave it a new ReStructure Mix and took pieces of the composition from Boris Midney to play out in a new and soaring version. More of the swirling pieces of Midney’s majestic orchestral snippets are intact and at times are created in a new way.
