Abbe is Abbe Lane is an entertainer whose career began in the mid-50’s. Her long list of recording along with her bandleader husband. Xavier Cugat is the outline of the lounge and club sound which helped to bring Latin rhythms to America. Always known as a “sexpot” she eventually landed in the 70’s disco period when she recorded her album “Rainbows” in 1980.The project was produced by Norman B. Ratner who produced Bob McGilpin and various disco artists from the mid 70’s. “You Make It Hard To Love You” is the single with the most impact from her return to the mic experience. This one is a heartbreak tag with lots of the electronic disco elements that became the staple of dance records. One of my favorite pieces that play out with a diva from the past blending into the disco world.
I have taken the album version of “You Make It Hard To Love You” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix playing tribute to Abbe Lane and the Butterfly Disco Label. There are some new elements added to pound out that disco rhythm with more of the percolating edge that was exciting for the time.
