ReStructure Mix Update (9/15/24):”I Beg Your Pardon” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Kon Kan

Kon Kan is a dance project from DJ Barry Harris who began a dance track with a mash-up of current vocals along with a classic piece of country-western (“(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden)” by Lynn Anderson. The single was a huge dance floor success and brought upon their album project titled “Move To Move” in 1989. The clever layout of the song is one that was innovative for the time and only heard before in special DJ remix medleys. The 80’s closing was a big celebration with tracks like this.

I have taken the 12” versions of “I Beg Your Pardon” and along with more of Lynn Anderson’s classic works this new ReStructure Mix. The new arrangement utilizes the verses in a new way and also extends the drop in piece of the classic piece.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/11/24):”Unison” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Junior

Junior (Norman Washington Giscombe, Jr.) is a soul/funk vocalist from London who had a big hit in 1981 titled “Mama Used To Say” which brought his name to the dance floor and DJ booths. His next single was released in 1983 and was titled “Unison” - produced by Andy Goldmark and Bruce Roberts. This single was released on the Casablanca Record and Filmworks label. A more subtle early morning sound on this track which contains some wonderful keyboard riffs which play out as a mellow strike yet resonate for seconds throughout the song. It is one of the tracks which always brings to my mind more of an afterhours feel. 

I have taken the 12” version (vocal and dub) of “Unison” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix to pull this one out to the dance floor again. I have utilized the lighty frenetic beats for a new intro and more of the anthem like chorus for the exit.

Dynasty is a disco/funk group featuring Kevin Spencer, Leon Sylvers, Linda Carriere, Nidra Beard, Wardell Potts and William Shelby. The project was founded by Leon Sylvers (of The Sylvers) and Dick Griffey (Solar Records). “I’ve Just Begun To Love You” is a single from their 1980 album “Adventures In The Land Of Music”  and contains the sound which refines the post disco era with a new brand of funk. The bass guitar pieces are kickin’ throughout this track and the wonderful harmonies make the lyrics last longer. The success of this track gave way to the Solar Records dance formula which lasted throughout the late 80’s under several artists.

I have taken the 12” version of “I’ve Just Begun To Love You” and reworked the essence of the groove again for this ReStructure Mix. A recutting and placement of the rhythm elements make this one come alive again in a new way.

Jesse Lee Davis is a Eurodance artist who began recording in the early 90’s and his big single “Is This Love” from 1992 is his most memorable - produced by Arn Schlürmann and Tom Gee. This fast paced love song is the question at the start of a romance where uncertainty is evident. Jesse delivers a powerful vocal which gives us segments of his talent in phrasing and also his yearning in this romance. The arrangement takes on a rave-like feel with some pounding of those odd-notes that make out the left field sound. The power edge of this track are the melodic verses which meet at the powerful chorus which pleads very much with an emotional tact.

I have taken the 12” version of “Is This Love?” and rewired this ReStructure Mix with an exchange of portions of the song for another. A new build is placed for the chores and some new breaks applied.

Ron Matlock is a soul artist and musician whose work includes working with Keith Barrow, Shirley Caesar, Rick James, Eddie Kendricks, Bobby Taylor and Norman Whitfield/ His solo album titled “Love City” from 1979 contains his single “Let Me Dance” - produced by Michael Stoakes. The track is a slick disco number which has a debonair vocal by Matlock and several riffs that play out soulfully and with a disco shine. It is the piece which would keep dancers out for one more spin. Ron delivers a performance here that is displayed wonderfully in the soul means and with the disco genes. 

I have taken the album version of “Let Me Dance” and grabbed the rhythm parts which stand out for a new outline in this ReStructure Mix. The new arrangement offers a few new breaks and an energetic fade out.
