ReStructure Mix Update (4/30/22): “Dirty Cash” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Adventures of Stevie V.
“Dirty Cash” is one of the deep-house / hip hop tracks of the early 90’s which rings over and over the social messages with groups like Snap! ventured in to. Stevie V. is like a mini series of dance segments all bringing forth the supposed answer to all happiness. This one has memorable hooks and a dive into the deep bass house edge with a tribal foundation. “Dirty Cash” brought into the 90’s all of the promise of 80’s from the dance floor and help to keep it hardcore. Produced by Stevie V. and featured vocal by Kevin Dozier.
I have taken the 12” vocal, sax and instrumental of “Dirty Cash” and made this reality show a new ReStructure Mix. All of the original elements are used in loops and overdubs to create the same energy with a new need for that “green”.
ReStructure Mix Update (4/28/22): “I’ll Be All You Ever Need” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Trinere
Trinere (Trinere Veronica Farrington) is one of the early Miami freestyle tracks to slam the dance floor with beats in 1986. “I’ll Be All You Ever Need” is a love song with a street edge and the resonance of innovative projects from the past like Kraftwerk and early rap-music beat box. Produced by Pretty Tony for the Jam Packed Record label this one pounds into our feet what Trinere is allowing her lover to know. Hard hitting and makes the floor move on its own. A new dance arena for the sound of Miami’s new iconic sound.
I have taken the 12” club mix and instrumental of “I’ll Be All You Ever Need” and added a new intro which starts with a few mild hints and then slams you into the wall. The beats have always made this one worthwhile and everlasting and now it is time to prove it.
ReStructure Mix Update (4/27/22): “High Energy / Reach Out, I’ll Be There” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Sandy Linton
Sandy Linton is a disco project from the mid-80s produced by Ronald Thorpe. This medley takes Evelyn Thomas’ big dance floor hit “High Energy” and combines it with Four Tops’ soul classic “Reach Out, I’ll Be There”. The electronic arrangement spikes a whole new feel for the blend of the two tracks and gives new energy to the iconic “high energy” anthem also.
I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental into a new ReStructure Mix and blended the pieces of both to maintain a new level of energy. There is a new drum track to pace out the excitement and a longer segues for both songs.
I have taken the album segment of “Sweet Drums” and transformed it into a layer for Cerrone’s past disco-wanderlust. Pieces of his work are used in and over during this ReStructure Mix to pay homage to this talented man.
ReStructure Mix Update (4/26/22): “You Can’t Run From My Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Stephanie Mills
Stephanie Mills is a r&b/soul vocalist from Brooklyn, New York and made her big introduction in the Broadway production of “The Wiz”. Her debut in the disco arena was a welcomed one and several big dance hits ensued including “Put Body In It” and “You Can Get Over” in 1979. Her 1982 project titled, “Tantalizing Hot” made another mark with her dance floor hit titled “You Can’t Run From My Love” – produced by James Mtume and Reggie Lucas. This statement is one of the tracks again from Stephanie which allow us to hear her voice as intended – strong and certain. A big dance floor hit for my club and one which helped to ignite more fire for her later in the 80’s.
I have taken the 12” remix of “You Can’t Run From My Love” and worked another ReStructure Mix out of it. There is a slight percussion accompaniment and also more of what this piece delivered originally – funk and movement.
ReStructure Mix Update (4/25/22): “Get The Look” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – New Paradise
New Paradise is a French disco project from producer, Leo Carrier and features an ensemble of driving vocals guiding the energy of their dance numbers. “Get The Look” is a 1981 single from their self-titled album and is one of the fast moving electronic tracks with several great hooks. The sequencers are loaded for play from the start to finish. The girls are shouting about a fashion statement that obviously is being made on dance floors and making them excitement with every minute. This one was always a favorite of my clubs with its wild guitar cha-cha break and then the chorus exploding over and over.
I have taken the album version of “Get The Look” and redirected this energy into a new ReStructure Mix. The movement is still quick and the pace if fast with some new drum tracks and percussion to make the trip an whole new experience.
ReStructure Mix Update (4/24/22): “Cecilia” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Mike Mareen
Mike Mareen (Uwe-Michael Wischhof) is a high energy project which helped to shape high energy music from the roots of electronic disco. His big hit “Dancing In The Dark” from 1984 is very much an influence from the synthesizers and approach of Giorgio Moroder from the mid and late 70’s. Mareen used a light edge of wizardry and also a proclaimed “Power Play” which defined his high energy sound. “Cecilia” is Mike Mareen’s cover of the Simon & Garfunkel 1970 pop-hit in a hardcore electronic package. The flow of the song is sweeping and uses Mareen’s edits and drops to entertain the dance floor. It is a sweet remake since the original song is infectious and quite moving.
I have taken the 12” version of Mike Mareen’s “Cecilia” and reedited the segments of rolling bass and sequencers into a new ReStructure Mix. This one plays out with more segues and breaks so that one can feel the energy that was released on dance floors with this style of dance music.
ReStructure Mix Update (4/24/22): “Don’t Leave Me This Way” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Slip
Slip is a Euro-disco project from producer, Manfred-Alois Segith – who also gave us Fancy and many Euro-disco/dance projects by various artists. Slip is one of early 80’s sessions which began with a cover of the Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes/Thelma Houston disco classic, “Don’t Leave Me This Way”. This electronic piece is a production which takes the vocals into a dreamy and sexy wonderland with a Marilyn Monroe feel. The chorus builds unlike the original soulful versions are campy and sweet – the underground disco way. A nice take on a disco classic and a new twist on the heartbreak in the femme fetale arena.
I have taken the 12” version of Fancy’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way” and played out this sexy drama in a new way. This ReStructure Mix utilizes the syn-drum breaks in parts of the track where e definite energy is new and surprising.
ReStructure Mix Update (4/21/22): “Las Colinas De Katmandu” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Tantra
Tantra is one of the most intense disco tracks in all of dance music history. The “journey” in fact the genius of arranger/producer Celso Valli who worked with producer La Drogueria Di Drugolo. “Las Colinas De Katmandu” is a released version of the huge club hit “Hills Of Katmandu” from 1979 and is one of the forerunners of Italian produced disco music. The track has always been hailed as an innovative production and used over and over in many programs to give that high energy, yet mystic feel of music. A great history and also still a great song – in English or Spanish.
I have taken the 12” version of “Las Colinas De Katmandu” and decided to enter and approach this experience in a new way. The ReStructure Mix follows many of the tools that I utilize in my play and often you may find that you are lost if you expect the original order.
