ReStructure Mix Update (7/10/24):”Beverly” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Fonzi Thornton

Fonzi Thornton is a voice that may be familiar within many dance classics including B.B. and Q. Band, Chic, Change and backing for Aretha Franklin and Luther Vandross. His part as a session vocalist leads to a well-deserved solo career. His 1983 project titled “The Leader” had a big backing including Kashif, Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers arranging and production including Michael H. Brauer, Robert Wright and Fonzi Thornton. “Beverly” is the first single from this project and contains the Kashif magic from start to finish. His touch always sprinkled magic over the groove enhancing with vibrancy new to the 80’s. It was a lustrous time for electronic music and funk to work together. The track “Beverly” tells the love story of a convincing dedication that has never been in the past. It is truly a great moment for Fonzi to display his vocal talent and also lay down a delivery which was a big edge in the 80’s dance scene.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Beverly” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix to pay homage to this voice behind the hits. There is a simple play with the existing keyboards and drum tracks which relay this remix into more of a dub mix.
