ReStructure Mix Update (3/25/21) “Can You Feel It” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Cindy and Roy
Cindy and Roy are Cyndi Wallman and Roy Wallman. This talented pair is husband and wife and also has shown a dedication to their music as they continued to entertain currently as The New Censations. Their disco project from 1979 was produced by Walter Kahn who also gave us Karen Young and Mizz. “Can You Feel It” is the single which received the most play and gave them a short lived prominence among the fading disco era into the 80’s. The production is one of the full on orchestrated moments and gives way to the end of the majestic disco period with a nice touch. The Casablanca Records finale in the new artist regime was one of substance for these two since they shared a talent in music as they continue to display today.
I have taken the album and 12” version of “Can You Feel It” and reworked both into more of a dub-like mix for this ReStructure Mix. It adds a few new elements via drum tracks to give the new “feel” a new sound. It is a tribute to the talents of Cindy and Roy and also the great Walter Kahn – who left us in 2013.
REISSUE: "I Got That Feeling" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix -Love De-Luxe Love De-Luxe is a disco project from Alan Hawkshaw who also worked with Miquel Brown and his own 80s dance group K.I.D. (“Don’t Stop”). His album “Again and Again” features many of musicians from the Munich Disco Recordings – including Les Hurdle, Ray Cooper and Pat Halling on strings. The album was one of the Euro-disco gems of its time with the big crossover song, “Here Comes That Sound Again”. I have taken the album version of “I Got That Feeling” and have given it a new ReStructure Mix to give the verses a new layout and arrangement. It is one of the most beautiful recordings with the disco orchestration and synthesized backup.
REISSUE: “Beauty and The Beast” by Love and Kisses – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera Love and Kisses is a studio ensemble created and produced by disco pioneer Alec R. Costandinos (who also wrote Cerrone’s “Love In ‘C’ Minor”). The LP “How Much, How Much, I Love You” was one of the big Euro-disco statements of 1978 – the vocals on this recording were provided by Alec, Joanne, Stephanie, Sue and Sunny. “Beauty and The Beast” is from the album and is one of the magical symphonic pieces of disco history. From the earlier “Romeo and Juliet” and the first Love and Kisses album – this one ranks right alongside Costandinos' classics. I have taken the 1991 Walt Disney now-classic “Beauty and The Beast” and mixed the two – even though a much of the chorus sings about the tale and the Disney cartoon focuses on Belle, the spell and the The Beast. It is a short walk using both mediums to create a disco-movement with the wonderful animation. The film was directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise This Disco Video Mix is dedicated to Loulou S. from The Netherlands - the "beauty" who always shines. REISSUE: "Just Another Broken Heart" by Dorothy Moore - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera "Just Another Broken Heart" is a 1982 dance classic by Dorothy Moore ("Misty Blue") - the track was produced by Bob Montgomery (Johnny Rivers, Jim Hurt). It is a well known underground track among disc jockeys and hard core audiophiles. It not only is a successfully dramatic performance by Ms. Moore, but it also has one of the most incredible arrangements. "The Bodyguard" is a 1992 thriller starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner - a film passed with past possible stars such as Diana Ross, Ryan O'Neil and even Madonna as the lead. Luckily, we have Whitney taking the stage and leaving behind a trail of tears which I take advantage of in this Disco Video Mix. Featuring scenes from "The Bodyguard" - RENT THE DVD! REISSUE: "I Don't Know What I'd Do (If You Ever Left Me)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Sweet Cream From their LP "Sweet Cream and Other Delights" this single became an underground club hit - although many not remember the song until they hear the chorus it has such potential as a classic. The guitar tracks are truly the funkiest and along with the fantastic vocal ensemble make the song linger on and on. The main vocal is sang with a great energy and a relaxed soulful tone. Works like magic. I have broken the song into parts and used several loops to provid a new approach at dancing to this crafty little number. Thank to the magic man, DJ Joey Luciano in New York for giving the request and welcome him to Disco 935!
REISSUE: “Substitute" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gloria Gaynor Gloria Gaynor is the elegant soul diva of disco! Her vocals have brought many dancers and music lovers to the heavens with her lovely and smooth approach. Gloria's first project, "Never Can Say Goodbye" on MGM Records was an instant hit on dance floors and was the first disco record to offer a non-stop medley of dance covers - assembled by the legendary, Tom Moulton. Her fifth album during the big disco boom in 1978, "Love Tracks" contained a single which was assumed as the big hit of the project - "Substitute". It is said that "I Will Survive" was placed as a B-side for the single but became the classic anthem standing on its own and even today being the most requested and played disco track ever. I have taken the 12" version of "Substitute" and have given it a ReStructure Mix to bring that wonderful pop-disco sound with a 50s flavor. Produced by Dino Fekaris and Freddie Perren this classic album is a mature sound for a disco performer who worked so immensely at her growing style.
REISSUE: “Have Fun (Again)” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Diana Ross Diana Ross is one of the iconic artists in music history. The success she created in the Motown era of the 60’s set a stage for a transition into the 70’s for another rein of original recordings for the soul and eventually disco music. In 1980 her album “Diana” was released and was one of the finishing touches for the end of the disco era – a project produced by Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards of Chic, one of disco music’s headliners and very talented duo. Their sound along with Ross brought a new vehicle for continued success for both. “Have Fun (Again)” is another piece from the project which echoes the sound of the heavy bass guitars of Chic and the smooth disco strings and arrangements included. It is one of the numbers that received attention both on dance floors and fans. I have taken the 12” version of “Have Fun (Again)” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix with a new focus on the energy of the chorus and the excitement of this pairing. More percussion and beats are added to bring it higher and more evident that the party has begun.
