ReStructure Mix Update (3/13/23): “Last Call” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jolo

Jolo is Jo-Carol and Lauren Carter – previously The Patrick Cowley Singers and a duo who delivered high-energy work throughout the mid-80s. “Last Call” is their 1984 single produced by Barry Beam and John Hedges on the Megatone Records label. This piece is an extraordinary work of beautiful riffs and the longing desires of the night world and playing the scene where the closing of the night only begins after hours. One of the singles from that year which plays out smoothly yet full of energy to pulsate over the dance floor. The production is a keyboard and drum fantasy and work up to a crescendo for the divas to build their notes to.

I have taken the 12” vocal of “Last Call” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix to pay homage to Jolo and the high energy scene of the 80s. Some of the most lyrical pieces are used to bring this one another chance to bring that hour in with some more desire.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/10/23): “Go Get It” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Metropolis featuring The Sweethearts Of Sigma

Metropolis is a 1978 disco project produced by Thor Baldursson and Tom Moulton. It features the trio of Barbara Ingram, Carla Benson and Evette Benton known as The Sweethearts Of Sigma – and also for adoring man of disco music’s hits from the mid-to-late 70’s. “Go Get It” is a funky disco track that uses the rhythm guitars as its main groove and then builds with a horn section which takes over from there. The piece is a track from their “The Greatest Show On Earth” project and reflects the early sounds of disco maturing into a new period of dance music.

I have taken the album version of “Go Get It” and used the guitars and main groove to play this ReStructure Mix into a new version. It has a new percussion layer below the surface to give way to that Euro-disco edge that made the disco floors go mad.

Dolly Parton along with producer, Gregg Perry (9 To 5) worked another dance piece for dance floors to honor the Queen of Country in their own space. “Potential New Boyfriend” with the title alone holds enough camp and humor to bring the edge of Dolly’s vocal lure to a hilt. This one has always deserved more than it received for those elements alone. The production is slick and builds into wonderful segments where Dolly sounds as adorable as she ever looked. It is a somewhat novelty number that appears to be more of a vehicle for the singer to brings to life another shadow of her image.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Potential New Boyfriend” and re-matched the track with more energy for this ReStructure Mix. There are new drums and bass effects added to make the new layout thump with more energy so that the power of dance music can live through it.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/8/23): “Close (To The Edit)” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Art Of Noise

The Art Of Noise is a British experimental pop group featuring Anne Dudley, Gary Langan, Paul Morley and Trevor Horn. Their music was an excursion into the sampled street style of music taking on its own. Their initial release titled “Who's Afraid Of The Art Of Noise” from 1984 contained their abstract title “Close (To The Edit)” which became an instant underground hit. The arrangement consists of pieces of recorded sounds (samples) being laid out a rhythmic parts and segments of melodies. The track like their many aims to work this new genre is infectious and leaves to mind an unfinished yet satisfying experience. Their work is somewhat of a masterful touch of engineering for the mixdown process.

I have taken the 12” version of “Close (To The Edit)” and reworked their pieces of ingenuity into a new ReStructure Mix. The new version which I have laid out focuses more of the piano riffs and adding a new sample to bring this one deeper into the “edit”.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/7/23): “I Love Men” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Cinema

Cinema is a high energy dance project from producer, Warren Schatz who wrote, arranged and produced this disc. The 80’s high energy scene was always giving the touch of disco a lingering sound on dance floors. “I Love Men” is another take on the hedonism of the male figure and taking it to heart with a love sonnet placed on a fast dance track. This one plays out as a deep fantasy or desire for thought that takes up much of her time. The production from Schatz gives us plenty of the dramatic strings that sweeten this track and also a very nice harpsichord sound for the majestic feel of the dance theme.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “I Love Men” and re-wired the song into a new ReStructure Mix. The intro gives off the full energy from the original version and introduces this idea with an initial blast.
