Evelyn “Champagne” King is a voice that will not soon be forgotten. The impact her talent made on the music industry is one that begins a soulful experience in disco music. Her single “Shame” from 1977 bridged the sound of soul and emotions to the disco arena. The effect was instant and gratifying giving this wonderful voice a stage for her music and energy. “Music Box” comes from her follow-up project from 1979 by the same title. Produced by Sam Peake and Theodore Life – along with Instant Funk and Luther Vandross as musicians and backing. This single is another example of Ms. King’s powerful vocal which play out with a rendition which gives the soul a moving experience. The piece is just as effective as her initial hit with a build and breakdown which makes the dance floor once again pay close attention.
I have taken the 12” version of “Music Box” and rewired a new ReStructure Mix to give this one another place. There are a few new breaks and looping edits to give it a new shine with the original soul intact.
