Learner’s Permit is an electronic dance project from David Gamson - who was originally a keyboard player for the group Scritti Politti. This project was a cover of The Archies 1969 pop-hit “Sugar, Sugar” (sung by Ron Dante) and transforms the hip-shakin’ 60’s track into a pop-synth number. The keyboards are a bit programmed as an Atari game and play out more in a camp outline as do the vocals. It is an early 80’s experimental track which takes the original into a whole new realm.
I have taken the 12’ vocal and dub version of Learner’s Permit’s “Sugar, Sugar” into a new breakdown for this ReStructure Mix. Using pieces of the original to fortify this new arrangement and bring it to another new dance experience as well as a recovery of the 60’s song.
