ReStructure Mix Update (3/21/26): ”Dirge” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Dream Girls

The Dream Girls is a studio ensemble from producers Martyn Norris and Richard Cottle - and features on vocals Adrienne Loehry, Hannah Jones, and Jackie Rawe. This project has taken the tracks “And I Am Telling You (I’m Not Going)” and a few disco classics to create a 90s point of view of each in a successful electronic production. “Dirge” is the B-side to their 1993 cover of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” - and features the instrumental talents of Graham Willcocks (Gemini Jones) in a trance/ambient piece which captures some beautiful moments. The funky guitars which serenade the melodic interludes create wonderful breezy moments where the dance beat and fantasy unite. It is one of the rare b-sides where I felt the need to flip this side up for a dance-trance set.

I have taken the 12” version of “Dirge” and recreated a new direction for this ReStructure Mix. Laying a heavy dose of percussion and beats to lead this one once again onto an amazing path.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/20/26): ”Love Is Calling” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Pleasure Game

Pleasure Game are Bruno Van Garsse, Jacky Meurisse, Michel Nachtergaele and Philippe Dhondt - a Belgium based group developed with the hardcore new beat sound and eventually becoming a Euro-house band. “Love Is Calling” is their single from 1992 - produced by Bruno Van Garsse and follows alongside the techno-pop releases of the time period from Dr. Alban, Culture Beat and Captain Hollywood Project. The various remix versions are more directed towards the new beat and techno arena where a dub edge is explored. Vocals appear in segments blending the direction into a more vaporized meaning and yet the experimental sound is more of the attraction here.

I have taken the 12” versions including the techno dubs of “Love Is Calling” and readministered a new edge for this ReStructure Mix. The function of these various techniques are outlined with moderate fades and drops which give it the new beat edge it was intended to attack.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/18/26): ”Make You Whole” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Andronicus

Andronicus is Jonathan Blanks - a dance music producer who worked with the house/techno approach on many of his projects. “Make You Whole” is his 1992 release which features the arsenal this talented man was capable of. A fast and deep pulsating piece which is broken into rhythm segments and paused for another fueling moment to hit harder and more intensely. The use of the Daisy Dee track “Crazy” from 1990 gives a more new beat drive with the Technotronic bass and beats yet Blanks gives us more to digest. With the early 90s resonating from the house, acid house and techno fusion there is a purpose for this piece and it still makes its point quite evident.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Make Your Whole” and stretched out the groove even more for this new ReStructure Mix. Using the percolating sequencers as the big line to cross for the new breaks and segments to carry on this tradition.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/17/26): ”I Say Yeah” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Secchi

Secchi (Stefano Secchi) is a music producer and disc jockey who took the 90’s into the Italo-house destination it was heading for. Following the huge success of Italian house productions as Black Box in the late 80s it was written on the walls where the playful Italo-disco sound was heading. “I Say Yeah” is a single from 1990 which takes the most important formulas of Italo-house and converts it into a powerhouse groove. The song has its concerns where our bystander watches the rise of a pop star who eventually becomes addicted to more than success. More of the interest in rhythm are the ingredients in this production where Secchi takes each element a step further. From the piping house keyboards to the percussion taking its own course this piece does mark an entry to the 90s where the club scene reaches its peak, again.

I have taken the 12” versions of “I Say Yeah” and readministered a new dose to this anthem for a new ReStructure Mix. One of the main factors for my new arrangement is the use of Secchi’s focus - the beats, bass and percussion.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/15/26): ”Open Your Mind” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Usura

Usura is an Italo-house project started by Walter Cremonini and Alex Gilardi - with their first single from 1992 “Open Your Mind” a direct attentiveness came from dance floors. The piece utilized samples from 80’s band Simple Minds 1983 song “New Gold Dreams” and flows into a mantra of internal discovery within the groove. A layer of mystic keyboard pumping out an Italo-house bass beat keeps the track alive throughout most of its arrangement. Usura eventually became a Euro-house group taking the sound into a pop-dance edge and consisted of Claudio Varola, Michele Comis and Elisa Spreafichi. “Open Your Mind” continues to direct itself within the underground retro arena and is now considered a classic house/techno number.

I have taken the 12” version of “Open Your Mind” and worked on a new ReStructure Mix to keep the works alive. I have added a couple of new drum tracks to build over the energy in a mild way and sprinkled a bit more of Simple Minds altering instrumental into this new remix.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/7/26): ”Marry Go Round” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Max Coveri

Max Coveri is a studio project featuring various lead vocalists on projects released under the name. “Marry Go Round” is a 1988 release produced by Nicolosi and released on the Italian dance label CGD Records. This love song gives us the confused state of a lover who is not sure where the romance has gone so literally holding on to survive with much confusion. The production is full of hard beats and sequencers rolling out the bass very similar to a Stock, Aitken and Waterman piece. The beauty of this number is the flowing melody which makes the dance track stand out on its own. The original production fuses a touch of the house rhythms with a piano track which detonates the Italo-house period.

I have taken the 12” vocal and dub of “Marry Go Round” and realigned the drama for a new ReStructure Mix. I have stripped down the percussion and beats for a new intro and also a new hard-down beat-break.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/6/26): ”Are You A Love Maker” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Shezoray

Shezoray is a disco project from producer Vince Degiorgio (Tapps, Eria Fachin, Crystal In The Pink, Barbara Doust) - whose contributions moved the 80s into the high energy mode of dance music. Shezoray is an electronic arrangement that is poised heavy on the synthesizers yet light on vocals. The number introduces a taste of bass sequencers pounding out the rhythm while the percussion takes over in breaks. 80’s high energy followed the resurgence of dance music in a dedication to disco music completely making the best tracks stand out as classics. “Are You A Love Maker” was released in 1983 and appeared in programs which favored the energy sets and Italo-diso and left the dance floor waiting for the next NRG release as the formula was being worked on and perfected.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Are You A Love Maker” and pieced together the works in this new ReStructure Mix. I have added more of the rhythmic instrumental as the outline and added The Queen Of Disco as a side note to where this all started.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/4/26): ”Baby It’s Alright Now” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Miss Nicky Trax

Miss Nicky Trax is a new-beat artist who released several singles which play out in the hardcore electronic arena. “Acid In The House” from 1988 is one of her well-known pieces which also gives a good interpretation of New Beat music. “Baby It’s Alright Now” is her 1990 release which is more fluent and pop-edged of her releases with a trance-house feel. The production by Jeff Vanbockryck, Patrick Claesen and Emile Elsen is a new beat outline with the rhythm focused on the build of the vocal segments. Many new beat pieces focus on an electronic riff and/or a theme using samples or pieces of another track - this release uses a format outside the style. There are echoes of a fusion within the arrangement and bring this one to life as more than just a mixing tool.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Baby It’s Alright Now” and reapplied the groove for another take in this ReStructure Mix. I have added more of a foundation for the groove and break parts of the verses into new segments.

Tafuri is a vocalist from the late 80’s and early 90’s house scene and through her vocal talents landed an opportunity to bring back the Phyllis Hyman classic “You Know How To Love Me” released in 1979. This beautiful house cover gives us a blend of Tafuri’s vocal presence and the production from Steve Anderson. This version plays along the same essence of the original with a few new beats and riffs of the house dance music movement of the time. It gives us another opportunity to hear a soul/funk fused classic again in a whole new realm.

I have taken the 12” versions of Tafuri’s “You Know How To Love Me” and reignited the magic again for this ReStructure Mix. I have given the new arrangement some new drop-outs and breaks to create a new sound and dance experience for this great cover.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/2/26): ”Free To Be” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gioia

Gioia (Carmen Gioia Bruno) is a singer who was a part of the 80’s trio called Expose’. Her solo career gave us some independent releases and one from 2001 titled “Free To Be” which is one of the uplifting anthems of the dance period. Produced by David Nieves this electronic techo-pop piece delivers several riffs that sink deep into the heart of the early millennium dance scene. The self written song gives out a positive ring to each and every one on the dance floor to “be free as yourselves”. It also gives Gioia an opportunity to give her performance as a main liner proving she is more than Expose allowed. There is a powerful message here which always caught my attention thanks to the uplifting arrangement and outline given here.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Free To Be” and revisited the anthem for this new ReStructure Mix. More emphasis on the actual groove with much of the original percussion making its way to the surface.
