Motiv 8 is a Euro-house project from Steve Rodway who also released several synth-pop tracks under Rodway including “Don’t Stop Trying” in 1983. “Rockin’ For Myself” is a track released in 1993 during the techno, house and rave segments of club dance music. It features Angie Brown on vocals and delivers a strong rippling bass number that aims to make the feet move. Rodway creates a style which incorporates the rhythms of house and high energy pulled into a Euro-styled finished product. Many of the Motiv 8 singles follow along the same arrangement with the keyboard wizardry of a number of peaks that are delivered with impact. Angie’s vocals here are limited to a few verses yet they pack the song with enough to make one remember it well.
I have taken the 12” versions of “Rockin’ For Myself” and reignited the energy here for a new ReStructure Mix. Taking parts of the 4 original remixes into a new arrangement and giving this one more space to control the oncoming energy. A salute to Rodway and his contributions to dance music and its changing formats.
