Denis
LePage is one of the pioneers from the disco period who had his talent
in many projects and his own genius. His own disco group Lime who along
with Denyse LePage created a new style of disco music evolving from a
single titled “Your Love” from 1980 – paving the direction for high
energy music. This was an exciting period and many of Denis’ affiliation
with past productions were one its own merit. “Magnum” is from a 12”
single and was the flip side to “Hot Wax” – it plays out in the genre of
a hit Denis wrote and arranged by Kat Mandu titled “The Break”. An
instrumental with sweeping strings and heavy percussion which topped the
disco era like a cherry on a sundae. “Magnum” is similar yet with
LePage’s work there is always a new feel and electricity to his
arrangements.
I
have taken the 12” of “Magnum” and reworked the percussion and
synthesizer parts to a new ReStructure Mix. A few looping elements
provide some new breaks and take on the original arrangement. This new
piece is homage to the wonderful period of Denis LePage and his sound
which today is more than a classic.
