Dominatrix is Dominique Davalos and Stuart Argabright – an 80’s group who released “The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight” in 1984 – produced by Kenneth Lockie. This track became an underground hit immediately due to its alternative sound and theme. A full electronic production with riffs which emphasize an unruly night for some except for the mistress herself. The keyboards have a raw edge which follows the new-wave movement yet with a definite New York underground sound. One piece which resurfaces every once in a while in circles where the cult music and dark edge are subscribed.
I have taken the 12” versions of “The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight” and re-emerged the party once again for this ReStructure Mix. More of the focus here are on the riffs which made this song an interest. The new breaks and arrangement are used to give it a new life.
