The Associates are Billy MacKenzie and Alan Rankine - a band from Scotland who began their recording career in 1980. In 1988 the band covered Blondie’s “Heart Of Glass” and became a recognizable sound on the alternative dance floor with their sleek electronic arrangements and rock edged vocal delivery. “Just Can’t Say Goodbye” is their 1990 project titled “Wild and Lonely” and is one of their most emotional singles formulated in the electronic-new beat style format. Perhaps one of the most intense vocal performances from MacKenzie which creates a dark and effective piece of the song. Mixed with style of new-beat music with its erratic beats and fusion of musical scale. The Associates were always a band attempting to achieve more from the industry where I have always felt this track is more for their fans and pleasingly so.
I have taken the 12” version of “Just Can’t Say Goodbye” and readministered the elements into a new ReStructure Mix. The moody sound of the original is broken into a new arrangement which defines the emotions and despair.
