REISSUE: “Dancing With Strangers” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE: “Dancing With Strangers” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

D.C. LaRue is one of disco music’s original artists who created a sound which became the outline of disco music and its soul. The lyrical melodies and diverse themes create the Broadway show feel which disco music is so dramatically able to relay. With producer Bob Esty on the 1978 album, “Cathedrals” a non-stop play of songs are displayed and written by D.C. himself.

“Dancing With Stanger’s” is the beautiful dance track which brings to mind the lovely atmosphere disco music is meant to create – and these two geniuses make it work over-and-over.

I have taken the 1953 musical comedy, “The Band Wagon” starring Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse – the fabulous dance sequences bring the disco number back to life and create a nice aura of disco magic all over again.

The film was directed by Vincente Minnelli

REISSUE: “In New York” by Passion – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE: “In New York” by Passion – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Passion is a disco group from producer, composer and arranger Ray Martinez featuring Richard Noriega Jr.. “In New York” is from the project “Passion” from 1979 released on the New York disco label Prelude Records. This number is one of the disco anthems which have the Miami flair which made disco music successful in the mid and late 70s.

I have taken the song and blended it in this Disco Video Mix with the 1977 film by Martin Scorsese, “New York, New York” starring Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli. The paring of the two titles and the story line of a romance between a singer and a musician in New York in 1945. The drama and performance sequences from Liza Minnelli add to the power of the disco track.

The film was directed by Martin Scorsese

This Disco Video Mix is dedicated to Mr. Ray Martinez who brought to life a new sound for dance floors and hearts around the world. Thank you, Ray!

REISSUE: "The Boys Come To Town" by Earlene Bentley - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE: "The Boys Come To Town" by Earlene Bentley - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Earlene Bentley was the high-energy sound from Ian Levine and with "The Boys Come To Town" from 1983 the dance floors were alive with excitement again.

The recording is one of the fondest of the time period where once again, disco music was headed in a whole new direction thanks to Ian Levine and Fiachra Trench. This one is full throttle from start to finish!

I have taken the 1949 musical "On The Town" and placed it within this Disco Video Mix - the film stars Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Betty Garrett, Ann Miller and Jules Munshin. There is enough of New York and "dance extravaganza" here to keep the night alive for weeks. It works well announcing the "ship is in" and enough said!

The film was directed by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly

REISSUE: “New York Is My Kind Of Town” by Metropolis – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE:  “New York Is My Kind Of Town” by Metropolis – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Metropolis is a disco project from 1978 on the classic label Salsoul Records and was produced by Thor Baldursson and Tom Moulton. The recording also featured vocals by The Sweethearts of Sigma – Barbara Ingram, Carla Benson and Evette Benton. This New York themed project was the source of the big disco single “I Love New York” which is still a classic among discophiles. I have taken the third hit from the project titled “New York Is My Kind Of Town” and created a Disco Video Mix to lament the Broadway-like energy and sound of 70s disco.

Scenes from the 1955 musical film, “Guys and Dolls” starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine are used to bring this chorus of celebration and excitement. More of the dance sequences are the feat of this Disco Video Mix and again the great work of Mr. Tom Moulton.

The film was directed by Joseph L. Mankiewizc

ReStructure Mix Update (9/23/19) “Cherry Pie” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Sade

Sade is Sade Adu, Paul S. Denman, Andrew Hale and Stuart Matthewman – their first album titled “Diamond Life” from 1984 contained a unique blend of lounge rhythms and jazz funk which made them a continued band even through today. “Cherry Pie” is a track from the project which also became a standard for their playlists even though it never official was a single release. The rolling bass and rhythms make this one an infectious heartbreak tale which satisfies from start to finish. Along with Sade’s vocals this one is an absolute classic.

I have taken the album version of “Cherry Pie” and reapplied a new arrangement and ReStructure Mix formula to create a new arena for the song. It has a longer intro, new break and a nice fade for those who can’t get lost deep enough.

REISSUE: " Love To Love You Baby" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

It was the start of disco ecstasy. It has been said that this classic may have been influenced by Diana Ross' "Love Hangover". There is a difference. This one has the funkiest groove and is laid out flat in this ReStructure Mix. Besides having Donna Summer create a wall of dancing pleasure by emulating a sensual role, it is one of the finest pieces of pop music of the 70's, regardless of it's somewhat controversial outline. Giorgio Moroder and Pete Belotte did the honors in the production along with Moroder's Munich Machine pumping out the groove. This one will last forever and can only be expressed with the proper essence by Donna herself. This one is as high as one can get.

REISSUE: "Come On And Do It" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Poussez!

Poussez! was released in 1979 and was a studio concept project from Alphonse Mouzon ("Everybody Get Down", "I'm Glad That You're Here") – a jazz musician and producer. His work was known throughout the early 70’s.

Christine Wilshire (noted on LP as Christine Shire) who had worked with Musique and Phreek was upfront on the vocal ensemble along with Holly Oas and Ruderial Blackwell. The choruses in “Come On And Do It” are more of a session of melodic ecstasy and are surely influenced by work like “Love Hangover” and “Love To Love You Baby”.

Mouzon did most of the production here on electronic instruments and is obvious this was a move to outline disco music for this time. It works well for what it stands for.

I have ReStructured “Come On And Do It” from the original LP version which was engineered by Mark Berry. Adding more of an electronic edge with new sequencer and track loops.

REISSUE:  “Dr. Sex” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Pleasure and The Beast

Pleasure and The Beat is one of the bands from the early 80s which played a role in shifting the synth-pop/alternative dance sound into high energy. Their 1983 single “Dr. Sex” is one of the alluring pieces of electronic music. An alternative edge with backing from many radio stations dedicated to the 80s nu-wave dance market. Produced by Jimmie O’ Neill and played out in a mystical arena with a female vocal which embodies the Siouxsie and The Banshees mood. A heavy layer of make vocals give it a sleaze feel with a touch of punk. One of the memorable pieces of the 80s and the open creative field for producers and artists.

I have taken the 12” version of “Dr. Sex” and layered those pumping bass key notes into a new ReStructure Mix. Focusing on the spell that the lead vocals seem to work and making every turn a new one.

REISSUE: “Touch Me” by New Baccara – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

New Baccara is Marie Mendiola and Maryse Peres – a disco group from Euro-disco producer Luis Rodriguez – also assisted by songwriter Reinhardt Frantz who produced Sweet Connection, Casablanca and Pepper Girls.

Their 1989 single “Touch Me” is a high-energy erotic feel dance number which always worked well for me during peak hour on the dance floor. I have taken the 12” “Erotic Dance Mix” and created a Disco Video Mix using scenes from the 1995 erotic-thriller from director William Friedkin, “Jade”.

The film stars David Caruso and Linda Fiorentino – the time-line to this film is “some fantasies go too far.”
I have used some of the sexy scenes and also the drama and crime segments to move the disco song along in a new pace and feeling.

REISSUE: "Sado Maso Disco" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Must

REISSUE: "Sado Maso Disco" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Must

Must is a disco project from Brazil which plays with the sado maso fetish and takes it onto the chic dance floor with chants and play-time for adults. This campy little track proves that you have to have a sense of humor to give into disco music or good strong cat-o-nine-tails. It is a celebratory and dance injected number and comes from Michel Gouty, Celestin Ganou and Pierre Nacabal.

I have taken the original 12” version “Sado Maso Disco” and have given it a ReStructure Mix adding another “playful” track in the 80s synth-pop genre to give it more humor to slap around. It is intended as fun and games – and not to be taken too seriously…otherwise, get a room.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/22/19) “Ahjia” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Kano

Kano is an Italo-disco project created by Luciano Ninzatti, Stefano Pulga and Matteo Bonsanto. Their big album from 1980 titled “Kano” featured six tracks which all enjoyed club play and praise from dancers, DJs and audiophiles. The track “Ahjia” is a bouncy keyboard piece that gave the high energy feel to the project. It is one of the most played pieces from the album as well as “I’m Ready” which is a funk and disco classic today. This project signifies the introduction of electronic music from Italy and what followed years to come.

I have taken the album version of “Ahjia” and re-edited and reworked a new ReStructure Mix to give way to another burst of energy in a new way. This remix works heavily on the keyboard elements and a new arrangement.

Big impact in early 1980 with this powerhouse LP - project was produced by Jacques Fred Petrus and featured the talents of David Romani, Paolo Gianolio and Mauro Malavasi behind the scenes. Vocals flow over the great keyboard and bass arrangements of this album. Jocelyn Shaw and Luther Vandross spread their magical notes throughout these songs and leave you wanting more. "A Lover's Holiday" is ReStructured for another trip with this funky and soulful sound emanating a groove over and over.

REISSUE: “Angel In My Pocket" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Change

Change is a disco project from 1980from Jacques Fred Petrus who worked throughout the mid and late 70s to perfect the disco sound as he also created the new innovative electronic disco vibe with bands like Macho, Peter Jacques Band and Rudy. The first Change album “The Glow Of Love” is a classic and iconic piece of disco perfection in a cross between his nigh energy bands and the New York/Chic-esque sound. Along with lead vocals by Luther Vandross and Jocelyn Shaw (Brown) there are moments of disco ambience and disco funk that cross paths so slick.

I have taken the album version of “Angel In My Pocket” which was one of the many cuts which aimed at floor-play. It has the powerful voice of Jocelyn Shaw taking us into safety after a bad fall and assuring us that we can look after ourselves when we look back and learn from experience. A new kind of angel. It has some new familiar beats and a long break to pull out more of the diva-in the track!

REISSUE: “The Glow Of Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Change

Change is one of the landmark moments of the early 80s. This production by Jacques Fred Petrus and Goody Music Orchestra is a magnificent breath of New York disco and the innovative sound of Italo-disco/funk - most likely influence by Chic.

"Glow Of Love" is the title track which features the late Luther Vandross on lead vocal - leading the way into a track that climbs and climbs with a nice roller-skate beat and feel. One of the treasures of the period.

I have ReStructured the song and have given it a complete new arrangement to treat the ears to something different and new - for those who have danced to it over-and-over.
