“La Bamba” by Antonia Rodriguez – Disco Video Mix by GlennRivera
Antonia Rodriguez is a disco artist from 1979 whose disco
version of Ritchie Valen’s 1960 rock ‘n roll piece “La Bamba” was as big in the
70’s as Valen’s song in the 60’s. Antonia’s production includes Gary Unwin,
Keith Forsey and produced by Horst Hornung. The disco version is complete with
flashing lights and every speck of reflection from that big mirror ball
spinning from above. It is one of the greater covers from disco history and
still demands a full dance floor.
I have placed the 1987 film, “La Bamba” in sync with the
song of its purpose along with stars Lou Diamond Phillips and Esai Morales. The
segments of Lou performing as Ritchie headline this Disco Video Mix and bring
the disco mix into a new meaning as Antonia takes lead for the male singer.
