“Macchina Nera” by Scala – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Scala is an Italian disco project from producer, Joseph Angelli and created three releases in the late 80’s. The most memorable is “Macchina Nera” from 1985 – a dark and strange dance number about a new nuclear weapon called “The Black Machine” (‘macchina nera’) and as an easily sold item for leaders of the world to become the last alive. This dance track has a deep sequencer thumping below keyboards emulating machines as this new machine is explained as the last choice for everyone. It is a great dance track as it brings to mind a bit of the political realm with a touch of slick disco rap into the challenge of “to use” or “not to use”.
I have taken the 1964 masterpiece from director Stanley Kubrick – “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb”. The parallel is not even a question of how they pair as an unattended match. The energy and comedy released in the dark-comedy is as useful as the Scala dance number. This new Disco Video Mix is born!
This Disco Video Mix is dedicated to my friend, Karen Jorgenson – thank you Karen for being just who you are!
