REISSUE: “The Rumor” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Olivia Newton-John Olivia Newton-John is one of the iconic female singers of the 70s music era. Her recording career plays out from the early 70s throughout 2015. Two of the memorable works of Olivia’s career are her tracks from “Grease” and “Xanadu” where her own performances in both motion pictures and their soundtracks elated the pop world. The early 80s carried Olivia into the pop dance scene with hits like “Physical” and “Twist Of Fate” where her voice was welcomed and celebrated by dance floors around the world. “The Rumor” comes from the same-titled album from 1988 – produced by Elton John and James Newton Howard. The track was a great addition for the high energy dance scene of the mid-80s. I have taken the 12” vocal, instrumental and dub expertly produced by Shep Pettibone and worked over the recording for a new ReStructure Mix. It gives more of the energy and pulsating keyboard layers more opportunity to spotlight the mood and Olivia’s wonderfully soft yet determined vocals a lift. Keeping this one on the turntable was no problem for me during its release and even more so now as I learn to appreciate the uplifting edge of dance music once again.
