Westbam is Maximilian Lenz. An electronic house production which took over following the New Beat period of the late 80’s. Many of Westbam’s releases are cult pieces with followers who delve deep into their use of sampled tracks or borrowed themes and bringing them alive in a whole new way. “The Roof Is On Fire” is his 1990 release which takes the riff from 2 Live Crew’s rap track by the same name. This time around the track literally is on fire as the energy builds and builds into stomping crescendo. It is one of the club favorites from the underground sound which brought to life the dance essence of the end of the 80’s and early 90’s.
I have taken the 12” version of “The Roof Is On Fire” and re-lit the energy for this ReStructure Mix. I have taken snippets from the 2 Live Crew original as well as another hot disco classic to get the mood smokin’.
