ReStructure Mix Update (7/13/23): “Backfired” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Debbie Harry

Debbie Harry introduced the pop-world to new-wave in 1978 with their big project “Parallel Lines” – which also included their disco hit “Heart Of Glass”. Debbie eventually began recording under her own name and during the early 80’s her production was taken over by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic. The project titled “KooKoo” was released in 1981 and featured the single “Backfired” – any heavy bass guitar and horn arrangement driven piece. It was the 80’s conversion from disco to a hardcore “Chic” edge. The story goes that this romance goes astray from the start yet there is much to ridicule about our outed man. “Backfired” is the word which Debbie informs him that she has been no fool since his cards have been flipped over from the start.

I have taken the 12” version of “Backfired” and rewound the groove for this ReStructure Mix. Using more of the groove on the arrangement and taking time for some use of those groovy breaks and segments which are only to be spotlighted and adored.
