ReStructure Mix Update (5/31/25):”Why Should I Cry” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Nona Hendryx
Nona Hendryx has proven herself over and over again within her musical talents and mild yet effective delivery. “Why Should I Cry” is from her 1987 project titled “Female Trouble” and was produced by Jellybean Johnson and Spencer Bernard and also features Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on synthesizers. This definitive track is one of the outlines for Nona’s style where she introduces the issue and then takes it on with her vocals. The funk-induced piece stands out in the pop-dance sector as it maintains its self-inflicted pain and anguish from Nona’s performance. One of the songs that I played during the build of the program on weekend nights and a successful response from the dance floor each time.
I have taken the 12” “Boo-hoo remixes” of “Why Should I Cry” and laid out a more underground club feel by realigning the bass sequencers and keyboards for this ReStructure Mix. More of the energy is focused on the pieceing of the story and a few breakdowns added.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/30/25):”Take Me To Your Heart” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Rick Astley
Rick Astley is one of the 80’s supreme voices from dance floors
during the mid-80’s. His first project was an outline created by the production team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman - a pop-dance formula which topped the charts during the time. With Astley’s charismatic voice it was assured each track with dance floor capabilities were to be a hit. “Take Me To Your Heart” is from Astley’s second project from 1988 which courted several producers on each track - this one produced again by Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Even though the sound was familiar it played out to the power of Astley’s vocal presence and laid once again a powerhouse dance floor hit.
I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Take Me To Your Heart” and have taken it back to ReStructure Mix edge with some new twists and turns. A new segment arrangement of the elements gives this one another chance to bring that magic back to those who swooned over and over to Astley’s power.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/29/25):”Nebula” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Eclips 21
Eclips 21 is a Belgian techno/ambient project from Jan Van Den Bergh from 1990. Following closely the edge of New Beat/Belgium Beat music from the end of the 80’s in an extended electronic composition where the breakdown of the concept plays an important piece of the overall project. Sampled pieces from films “Altered States” and “2001: A Space Odyssey” give an explanation of the direction for this somewhat mystical vibe. One of the creative periods of dance music and a fusion of the standards of the techno brand as well as the airy sound of ambient.
I have taken the 12” versions of “Nebula” and explored a complacency among the existing pieces for this ReStructure Mix. The sampled parts from Information Society’s “What’s On Your Mind (Pure Energy)” was my focus in completing this new remix utilizing the original drum beats. There is a journey deeper into this space and making way for a few new stops.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/28/25):”Illusions” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Dhar Braxton
Dhar Braxton is a singer from the late 80’s who had a freestyle track titled “Jump Back (Set Me Free)” from 1986 that scored on many club playlists. Her 1987 follow-up single is “Illusions” - produced by Chocolette (Collette Thompson). This piece was in the garage house tradition of hard beats meeting the keyboards which create patterns and rhythmic formulas. From the mid-80’s this style became more influential thanks to pop groups like Expose’. “Illusions” strikes with a drum beat that would rattle the dance floors and give Dhar Braxton another opportunity to lay it out plainly and contest her vulnerabilities in a soured romance. It is the 80’s direction in a club format.
I have taken the 12” versions of “Illusions” and planted these drums again into the deepest dance floor for this ReStructure Mix. Compiling the syncopated drums in a new fashion for a new intro, breaks and transition to a fade. The new arrangement takes a new placement for those pieces which make this track work.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/27/25):”Give Him A Love He Can Feel” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Tene’ Williams
Tene’ Williams is r&b/gospel vocalist who recorded a 1993 project featuring a dance floor hit titled, “Give Him A Love He Can Feel” - produced by Steve “Silk” Hurley (Cee Cee Peniston, Malaika). Beats and vocals are the front of this piece and the trigger-beats are fierce. This one slams into a love song where Tene’ takes us in and out of an experience that is to the point. This one was more of a club favorite for those who were not only afraid to move but could do it well. A wonderful stripped down production focusing on a groove which takes a hold on the body and a vocal to make it all complete.
I have taken the 12” vocal, instrumental and dub of “Give Him A Love He Can Feel” and played out the merciful beats once again for this ReStructure Mix. A new segment of drum beats give a new intro and also a fade to make the journey complete.
This ReStructure Mix is lovingly dedicated to my incredible friend, Felix Prince - who left us in the early millennium leaving behind a town that experienced “house music” the way it should have been played. Thank you for always sharing tracks as this one and making it so exciting to share with others.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/26/25):”Who Found Who” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jellybean featuring Elisa Fiorillo
John “Jellybean” Benitez started as a club DJ and later became a producer and songwriter. His credits include producing and creating tracks for Madonna in the early 80’s - including her big hit “Holiday” from 1983. “Who Found Who” is a single which features Elisa Fiorillo as lead vocalist and was released in 1987 and from his project, “Just Visiting The Planet”. The track is a pop-dance recording which gives way to many wonderful hooks that guide this lyrical piece into a faltered love affair which brings to mind a question. John has brought several vocalists to the stage during the mid and late 80’s and produced many projects during his time in the industry.
I have taken the 12’ vocal and dub versions of “Who Found Who” and reworked the song for this ReStructure Mix. I have laid down a long intro which blends into the fabulous vocal from Elisa and also added a few breaks using those bass and drum elements.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/25/25):”All Night Long” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Radiorama
Radiorama is a Euro-disco project from Aldo Martinelli and Mauro Farina. The project featured many releases which were hits on many dance floors. Their projects throughout the late 80’s delivered them into the 90’s where a more house feel began to influence their sound. “All Night Long” is their cover of the Lionel Ritchie pop-hit from 1983 and is in the Euro-house feel with the pumped up rhythm tracks and keyboards. A nice smooth revisit with a familiar sound to the period and yet a nice tribute to the original in a simpler package. Vocals are sweet and make the energy here a bit more subdued but every bit as enticing.
I have taken the 12” versions of Radiorama’s cover of “All Night Long” and reworked their arrangement again for this ReStructure Mix. A blending of the best rhythm tracks from both 12” versions and some new segues make this new remix ready to go.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/24/25):”Tunnel Vision” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Midnight Shift
The Midnight Shift is a high-energy dance project from producers Ian Anthony Stephens, Ian Gant and Robin Wright. A powerhouse of an ensemble with the 80’s construction of the sound itself from those who helped to create it. “Tunnel Vision” is their initial release from 1987 and is a pulsating track with many hooks and riffs that make it a need for those dancers longing for beauty and energy. The 50’s boyish vocals make this one unique as our story is revealed for the necessity of a love affair. Heavy percussion builds throughout the track and makes this experience well worthwhile.
I have taken the 12” version of “Tunnel Vision” and reworked the slamming percussion tracks and synths for this ReStructure Mix. Placement of breakdowns are in this new arrangement which uses the building energy as an outline.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/23/25):”I Can Feel It” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Stop
Stop is a jazz-funk project from Andy Sojka, Jerry Pike, and M. Poole from 1980. Their single “I Can Feel It” was one of disco singles to combine the melodic jazz tones to a dance track as music shifted in the early 80’s. It is one of the singles that play out as a test of indie musician qualities. A disco touch of syn-drums placed at peak moments and builds gives this one its intrinsic touch and although the arrangement built in the jazz-like jam outline it is an interesting single for its time.
I have taken the 12” version of “I Can Feel It” along with the flip side titled “Iauwata” (titled after the reggae keyboard player) and placed it into a new ReStructure Mix. Keeping the momentum of the jazz arrangement in place of a new drum and percussion layer this new placement gives this jam session a new outline.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/21/25):”Set Your Loving Free” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Lisa Stansfield
Lisa Stansfield has one of the voices of the late 80’s and 90’s that has left a great legacy of tracks including “All Around The World”, “People Hold On” (with Coldcut) and “Jackie” (with Blue Zone U.K.). Her 1991 project “Real Love” - produced by Andy Morris and Ian Devaney contained the single “Set Your Loving Free” which was released as a 12” with remixes from house producers, Masters At Work. The big house movement during the late 80’s gave this release an incredible revamp with the right amount of energy to move this one from start to finish. Released during an over saturation of house and club artists and remixes, it still stands true to its own thanks to Lisa’s vocals and the Masters At Work magic.
I have taken the 12” remixes of “Set Your Loving Free” by Masters At Work and re-lit the bounce and slam for this ReStructure Mix. More of the intro is spaced for a fade in to the song and a few new segues dropped in for the excitement.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/20/25):”Din Daa Daa” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – George Kranz
George Kranz is a German musician and actor who created a stir in the mid-80’s with his 1983 single “Din Daa Daa”. This experimental
track fused a street edge rhythm with infectious chants and worked the street sound of New York into a new reference. Produced by Christoph Franke and George Kranz it was featured on his 1984 project titled “Mr.Rhythm”. Each segment of this recording builds onto an explosive keyboard segment which narrates the track over and over. Perhaps one of the most recognizable songs of the 80’s due to its original riffs and dub-like feel,
I have taken the 12” versions of “Din Daa Daa” and laid out the track in this new ReStructure Mix. I have used clips of the original chants and recreated a new arrangement leading up to each build. A little help from Herbie Hancock gives it that 80’s beat-street identity once again.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/19/25):”Balearic Beach” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Balearic Beach
Balearic Beach is Herman Gillis, Jo Casters and Roland Beelen - a Belgium Beat project from 1988 and produced by Morton Sherman Bellucci for Subway Records. The New Beat sound of the late 80’s blended heavy synths with house beats and mostly odd themes with sampled elements. “Balearic Beach” is a venture into a distorted rock sound which tears the track into fierce guitar solos with touches of Kraftwerk to give our imaginations a run for each cell. This one fits right into the left field sound and makes the New Beat movement complete with a necessity to wonderful - who knows where this is going?
I have taken the 12”version of “Balearic Beach” and packed up the suntan lotion and beach balls for a new ReStructure Mix. As our trip to the sand does not seem complete without the Beach Boys serenading us along the way. New arrangement gives the boys an opportunity to venture their surf in the distortion of Belgium Beats.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/18/25):”Dancing Angel” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Constellation Orchestra
Constellation Orchestra is a disco project from Jesse Boyce and Moses Dillard from 1978. One of their follow up projects to Saturday Night Band (“Come On, Dance, Dance”). This ensemble is indeed the New York disco sound of the period and also on the classic dance label Prelude Records. Featured on vocals are Clyde Tucker, Donna McElroy and Vicki Hampton. Focused on a theme based on the universe and its “celestial” mysteries with four tracks featuring the title track “Perfect Love Affair”. Boyce and Dillard bring a full on orchestral/Euro-disco feel to this production and arrangement and bring to life an imaginary place somewhere which is outlined with unity and love. “Dancing Angel” is a fantasy of a new realm which brings us closer to an all-night dance where we can escape and take part in this universal moment. One of the best that the late 70’s had to offer and the beauty of disco music contained.
I have taken the album version of “Dancing Angel” and rearranged and re-layered pieces of the original for this ReStructure Mix. A new foundation is added to steer this new adventure into a galactic dance experience.
Dedicated to the real geniuses - Mr. Jesse Boyce and Mr. Moses Dillard
