Nona Hendryx has proven herself over and over again within her musical talents and mild yet effective delivery. “Why Should I Cry” is from her 1987 project titled “Female Trouble” and was produced by Jellybean Johnson and Spencer Bernard and also features Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on synthesizers. This definitive track is one of the outlines for Nona’s style where she introduces the issue and then takes it on with her vocals. The funk-induced piece stands out in the pop-dance sector as it maintains its self-inflicted pain and anguish from Nona’s performance. One of the songs that I played during the build of the program on weekend nights and a successful response from the dance floor each time.
I have taken the 12” “Boo-hoo remixes” of “Why Should I Cry” and laid out a more underground club feel by realigning the bass sequencers and keyboards for this ReStructure Mix. More of the energy is focused on the pieceing of the story and a few breakdowns added.
