Mel and Kim are a duo featuring Kim Appleby and Mel Appleby - one of the big dance floor successes of the production team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Their 1987 project titled “F.L.M.” are one of the big surprises of that year where a few of their singles charted on dance floors and playlists. “Respectable” is one of their singles which outlines the house-bass created by SAW along with elements of street- scratching and enigmatic samples. The duo take this one as an outline of their dedication to the nightlife and emphasize they will never give it up and be “respectable”. The success of Mel and Kim created a new audience for dance floors where the street groove blended with pop was much more to move with.
I have taken the 12” vocal and dub versions of “Respectable” and rewired a new ReStructure Mix. Using the looped parts which define the original flow and using them as a new reference is a chance to hear and move to this one in a whole new way.
