ReStructure Mix Update (5/28/25):”Illusions” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Dhar Braxton

Dhar Braxton is a singer from the late 80’s who had a freestyle track titled “Jump Back (Set Me Free)” from 1986 that scored on many club playlists. Her 1987 follow-up single is “Illusions” - produced by Chocolette (Collette Thompson). This piece was in the garage house tradition of hard beats meeting the keyboards which create patterns and rhythmic formulas. From the mid-80’s this style became more influential thanks to pop groups like Expose’. “Illusions” strikes with a drum beat that would rattle the dance floors and give Dhar Braxton another opportunity to lay it out plainly and contest her vulnerabilities in a soured romance. It is the 80’s direction in a club format.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Illusions” and planted these drums again into the deepest dance floor for this ReStructure Mix. Compiling the syncopated drums in a new fashion for a new intro, breaks and transition to a fade. The new arrangement takes a new placement for those pieces which make this track work.
