From 1983 – 1986 I was living in Los Angeles, California and spinning nightly at a Levi-Leather bar notoriously called, Spike. The bar would remain open until 6am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Some of my most exciting and adventurous mixing was during this period. I enjoyed spinning music after 2 am when all of the alcohol was taken away and the music was what got you high. I had a great time mixing some great old classic disco during this period and found it very much appreciated.

Anyone who visited Spike during this time knew how incredible the experience was – especially the music. I want to thank the bar manager, Vince at the time who would come up to the booth every 15 – 20 minutes and say, “Bang em’ to the wall!” He always wanted them to be pulled into the energy of the music, and then slowly let down a few levels – and then back up again. It was the most incredible programming experience of my spinning career. Everyone was listening to the music.

This mix is dedicated in memory of my co-DJ from Spike, John Riles – his energy is still around me.

Hot Leather - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Passengers

• Hot Leather - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Passengers

In 1979 disco was shifting. A new vision was being explored and much of the creativity was being laid in the minds of the producer and artists. Celso Valli was a man who pulled much of what was happening in the mid seventies with synthesizers and arrangements together. The birth of a new sound featuring the orchestral feel of disco and a new synthetic formula. As he did with Macho, Tantra and several other ingenious productions he made Passengers a very carefully executed brain child. "Hot Leather" is the forerunner of this set - by researching and studying much of this work you can understand how his work is now looked at as classic and perfection. Although pop at the time of its release this is wonderful music to analyze as disco music becomes looked at more closely with time.
I have taken "Hot Leather" and extracted some of the more memorable points and worked a few more breaks into the already pulsating rhythms. A great requests from Hank in Florida - thank you, Hank! It's for you.

Follow Me - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Amanda Lear

• Follow Me - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Amanda Lear

Disco music reached a point when dancing the night away lead to early morning - this was the perfect time for melodic and trancey disco to become of age. Amanda Lear's "Follow Me" was the perfect example of "early morning music". It became an underground classic in 1978 - it was then that Wally McDonald took this track from a medley off of Lear's "Sweet Revenge" LP and transformed it into a swirling and hypnotic charmer. The raw synthesizers and lush strings create an atmosphere that has remained it's own sound. This great song is probably the original of it's kind and also gave Lear the opportunity to use her vocal style in an appropriate manner. This ReStructure takes Wally McDonald's magic and transforms it into a new intro and closing. Building on it's theme and making Amanda more accessible. Thank you Wally for a wonderful experience!

Love Is Just A Heartbeat Away - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gloria Gaynor

• Love Is Just A Heartbeat Away - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gloria Gaynor

Love songs with a disco beat were songs that gave hustle and touch dancers the opportunity to move to a beautiful melody and flowing arrangement. "Love Is Just A Heartbeat Away" from the "Nocturna" soundtrack was such a number. Although the film did not last a long as the 2 big disco numbers from the soundtrack (the other being "Nighttime Fantasy" by Vicki Sue Robinson) it was a film that remains an underground rarity. Gloria Gaynor was a the top of her form here. Her vocals exercise a yearning that can be felt throughout this cut. I have taken the track and added a few more breaks and chorus' to express a new emotion. The cut was produced by Reid Whitelaw and Norman Bergen. Many of the musicians where disco's finest included Don Renaldo on strings and horns and The Sweethearts of Sigma on backup vocals.

Good Times - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chic

• Good Times - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chic

The bass line that lasted for a era and the group that made disco funky. This #1 disco hit is one of the best produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards with the arrangement that was "chic" during the time. A ReStructure revisits the track and place a new emphasis on just how lasting a great song always stays fresh.

Dedicated to Orlando Pontier for the request.
