REISSUE: "Mah-Nah-Mah-Nah” by Lipstique – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE: "Mah-Nah-Mah-Nah” by Lipstique – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Lipstique is a studio project from disco producer Jürgen S. Korduletsch – who also gave us Claudia Barry, Ronnie Jones, Gaz, Disco Circus, Mick Rowley, Mascara and Araxis. The first album titled “At The Discotheque” (a cover of Chubby Checker’s 1965 flip-side 45 track) – arranged as a disco medley with a few new instrumental and vocal segments added. The album was a huge hit in clubs and still rings true to the disco period.

“Mah-Nah-Mah-Nah” is another cover of Piero Umiliani’s 1968 composition which originally appeared in an Italian film titled, “Sweden: Heaven and Hell” – it was later covered by Giorgio Moroder in 1968 and then recognized from a popular skit from The Muppets.

I have taken the television comedy series release of “The Best of Benny Hill” and combined the two, since the show occasionally used the musical piece in various skits. It defines the silly and crazy antics of this very-funny man!

REISSUE: “Music” by Montreal Sound – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE: “Music” by Montreal Sound – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Montreal Sound is a Canadian disco band from Gerry Bribosia and Jerry De Villers – with three albums released from 1977 – 1979. Their second project titled “One More Time” featured the single “Music” which was released as a 12” remix on the classic disco single label T.K. Disco. The single became an instant stick of dynamite for any party with its built in cheers and pulsating bass synthesizer breaks. The disco version is quite an example of a remix and how it is tailored for discotheques in the early days of disco music.

I have created a fast paced anthem-like Disco Video Mix using scenes from the 1942 American biographical musical film, “Yankee Doodle Dandy” starring James Cagney and Joan Leslie. The stars and striped dance sequences add to the trumpet blaring the French Canadian children’s song, “Alouette”. It is all is fun and funky twist in the big stage dance numbers.

The film was directed by Michael Curtiz

ReStructure Mix Update (6/2/19) “The Letter” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Amii Stewart

Amii Stewart is best known for her huge disco hit from 1978 “Knock On Wood” – a cover of Eddie Floyd’s 1967 soul classic. Her transformation of the song into a disco powerhouse event is thanks to producer Barry Leng. This formula is repeated again with Amii’s 1979 release of “The Letter” – yet another transformed pop classic into “disco heaven”. This track from her album “Paradise Bird” gives off a rock edged electronic arrangement with the same level of disco magic. Lots of heavy drums and bass-lines that roll out each part of Amii’s incredible vocal delivery. This is again one of the big assets in disco history which never grows out of fashion for this genre.

I have taken the album version of “The Letter” and moved it into a new phase of the underground feel for this ReStructure Mix. Pulling the ominous bass tracks and pounding drums into an ethereal environment. More of that fading off for the big finish into oblivion – but with that idea that it is not quite over yet.

REISSUE: "The Grand Tour" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Grand Tour

An early project by Willi Morrison and Ian Guenther who were also responsible for THP Orchestra, Sticky Fingers, Ramming Speed, American Fade and a few Hazell Dean productions. These guys spared no talent when it came to creating an energy along with a musical arrangement. This LP is comprised of a light and airy feel with material along the same. "The Grand Tour" has a feel reminiscent of a Voyage song - since it's lyrics speak of traveling with a great uplifting spirit. I have taken the original production and created a new extended intro and used the original vocal arrangement with a few phasing effects to create a flowing energy.

REISSUE: "Lift Off” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Patrick Cowley

REISSUE: "Lift Off” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Patrick Cowley

Patrick Cowley is a disco pioneer in production and mind. His music has always represented the fantasy and adventure which hardcore dance music meant to deliver. His work with keyboards and synthesizers gave another era of electronic magic to disco music from the late 70s to the late 80s. More of his music is based on psychedelic moods and soaring motors of sound. His productions include many artists from the San Francisco disco movement in the early 80s like Sylvester, Paul Parker and Sarah Dash. His album “Megatron Man” is a classic in its entirety. Each track is a ‘mind trip’ which contains Cowley’s touch throughout in an originally production. “Lift Off” is a blasting adventure of traveling through a dance mind warp to ecstasy – always one of my favorites.

I have taken the album version of “Lift Off” and recreated a new voyage in this ReStructure Mix. A whole new edit that reworks the original elements to bring out the excitement once again.

REISSUE: "The Love Train" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Crystal Glass featuring Kristi B.

REISSUE: "The Love Train" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Crystal Glass featuring Kristi B.

Crystal Grass is a disco band from the early 70s that initially featured many players from the Euro-disco movement including Slim Pezin and Marc Chantereau. Produced by French producer Lee Hallyday - there is a distinct sound from the Cerrone and Alec R. Costandinos recordings here. It is what helped to shape another faucet of disco music during the experimental period.

"The Love Train" is the 1978 album from Crystal Grass and features vocal by Kristi B. - the project is similar to those of Voyage where the a symphonic disco sound travels to locations around the world offering a flavor to each track with a distinct disco beat.

I have ReStructured the opening track "Overture To The Love Train" taking parts of the movement to create a whole new piece. It is a bit more concise and offers an alternative party-mood for this wonderfully produced disco album.

REISSUE: “From East To West" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Voyage

REISSUE: “From East To West" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Voyage

Produced by Roger Tokarz and featuring many musicians from France (alias Cerrone sessions) this LP took the disco concept project into a whole new light. This LP was most likely heard in it's entirety or played out on either side with each song segued. It was one of the most brilliant disco albums of the year. The vocals on this LP featured Kay Garner and Stephanie De Sykes (Love & Kisses, Cerrone, Kikrokos) who create a lyrical sound that is influenced by the Euro-Disco sound emerging at the time. "From East To West" contains many fantastic musical elements from the bass guitars to the innovative keyboards of the time. Still fresh and very pleasing. My ReStructure only breaks the song into many parts featuring new breaks and more of the soothing vocals.

REISSUE: "Take Off" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Harlow

REISSUE: "Take Off" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Harlow

Disco music's transition to high-energy was a process that began in the early 80's. With projects like "Taking Off" by Harlow in 1980 - a Canadian studio group produced by Mike Alyanak and Alex Aleander a fusion of the smooth Euro-disco sound and the driving sound of the dance floor pulse. The LP was close to a latter-day Voyage or Cerrone effort.

"Take Off" became an instant dance floor track that was memorable and lasting from this period. It had the driving energy that dance floors were ready to turn their feet over and yet a beautiful arrangement and vocal track to last.

I was lucky enough to see Harlow perform at a club in Hollywood during the early 80's and experiencing this ensemble perform this song live was surprising - it was just as powerful.

My ReStructure is a homage to the track and dissects parts of the song into a whole me meaning.

REISSUE: “Pistol In My Pocket” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Lana Pellay

REISSUE:  “Pistol In My Pocket” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Lana Pellay

Lana Pellay is a high energy artist in the vein of the successful band Dead Or Alive with the help of P.W.L. Productions – with Phil Harding engineering. This camp number is a take of Mae West’s so-called classic line from “She Done Him Wrong”. “Pistol In My Pocket” is fast and furiously means and roars out as the beats and percussion remind our feet that high energy is its own style. The lyrics are fun and a bit mild although Lana’s performance is fun and a bit tame for what I would imagine as a transsexual performer.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Pistol In My Pocket” and reworked a ReStructure Mix with some new bullets and loops to make the fierce number come alive again. It uses some bits of Ms. West at the intro and a touch of what made it all happen at the end.

REISSUE: Perfume of Love Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix Scala

REISSUE:  Perfume of Love   Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix   Scala

Scala is an Italo-disco project from 1985 whose first single “Macchina Nera” was featured on an issue of Razormaid giving it the stamp of alternative dance. Their heavy use of pounding beats and heavy bass along with themes that follow another realm are the encompassing addiction to Italo disco. Produced by Joseph Angelli and Renzo Luchetta – this all electronic production is a fierce deep pounding 80s dance number that resonates. The sensual vocals are wonderful throughout the song even in spoken verses. I big hit for me during the high energy period and one of my favorites for those afterhours programs and a big leap for Italo-disco.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental versions to create this ReStructure Mix and accentuated those drums into their further riff. It is a longer and more use of those vocal tracks and sharp keyboard pieces are one which I also imagined.

REISSUE: “When You Walk In The Room” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ramming Speed

REISSUE:  “When You Walk In The Room” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ramming Speed

Ramming Speed is an 80’s high energy project from Canadian disco producers Ian Guenther and Willi Morrison – the fantastic duo who brought to dance floors their former work by THP Orchestra, Southern Exposure, The Duncan Sisters, Grand Tour, The Skatt Brothers, American Fade, and Hazell Dean’s “Evergreen”. This 1984 release is another example of the magnificent duo and their ability to shift from the big disco production of THP Orchestra and Grand Tour into the new and growing high energy sound of the early 80s. A sound which seemed heavily influenced by later 70s productions by The Simon Orchestra and the striking drums and dramatic keyboard riffs. “When You Walk In The Room” is a clever disco clever of the Jackie De Shannon song and takes it to the hilt with pounding drums and the rolling bass tracks. One of the sweet high energy pieces which continued to keep the disco efforts moving in a progressive manner for the 80s.

I have taken the 12” and utilized the three versions to recreate a ReStructure Mix with hints of the original from the 1964 original. The drums and percussion are pieces of the original only being brought to the front like a cannonball. More of the Morrison and Guenther work which continued to leave me in awe of their magic in the 80s and just as successful on the dance floors.

REISSUE: "The Power Of Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Astaire

REISSUE: "The Power Of Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Astaire

Astaire is an 80's studio band with a list of high energy tracks that would make any dance floor shake with excitement.

It was the re-birth of disco music in an electronic/industrial feel. Complete with flowing beauty and powerful divas.

"The Power Of Love" is ReStructured here with a  whole new emphasis placed of the magic of the track itself. I have looped and chopped this track into an extended dessert for any dance floor.

REISSUE: “Le Cage Aux Folles” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Le Jeté

REISSUE: “Le Cage Aux Folles” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Le Jeté

Le Jeté is a studio band produced by Ken Kessie, Marty Blecman and Morey Goldstein on the high energy label Megatone Records. Their only single “La Cage Aux Folles” from 1983 is a disco version of a song from the Broadway Musical which is based on the 1978 Italian comedy. This production follows the high energy pace set my tracks like “So Many Men, So Little Time” and “The Boys Come To Town” which give disco music a new facelift with the electronic percussion and heavy synthesizers. A big hit in many clubs either as a vocal or the flip-side instrumental. Lots of the breaks and flowing energy that made the early and mid-80s a great place to dance.

I have taken the original Megatone 12” vocal and instrumental to work this new ReStructure Mix. It extends the song and places some new re-edits as the breaks and re-worked synthesizer parts. The vocals are re arranged and given more opportunities to entertain and welcome a sample from Mr. Robert Preston.
