Frankie Knuckles is one of the founders and creators of house music in the late 80s. His contribution and knowledge of the dance floor itself and its response to music and change has made him an icon. Frankie also produced many projects including the 1992 single “Workout” featuring Roberta Gilliam on lead vocals. This project is one of his most memorable as the riffs are contagious and slick. It works like a weekend anthem for peak hour where the music is working its magic throughout the crowd. Much of the excitement is about the mood and delivery and this is where Frankie makes his point with “Workout”. It was one of the top house movers during its release and I can remember holding on to it using it as ammunition for a crowded dance floor to be wrecked.
I have taken the 12” versions of “Workout” and laid out the song in a new arrangement for this ReStructure Mix. The foundation is laid out with the rhythm track which slowly surfaces into the power of the kick beats.
