RuPaul is an entertainer/singer who took the 90s and turned the house music scene into a runway. “Supermodel (You Better Work)” is his 1992 single - produced by Jimmy Harry. This extravaganza piece is one of the parodies which outline itself as genius. RuPaul’s stage presence as a cross-fashion goddess takes this theme and transforms it into a lifestyle for many during its release. The immediate attitude is laid out in the appropriate manner using every “new” phrase in this fabulous profession called “super modeling”. More of RuPaul was placed in television appearances in full drag and being warmly accepted by the public as they are swept into this musical fantasy. His vocals fit into this mold as the notes themselves are placed. It is pure dance floor magic and also a note of house music and its own success in the late 80s and 90s.
I have taken the 12” versions of “Supermodel (You Better Work)” and placed pieces and bits into a new interpretation for this ReStructure Mix. I have created more of a dub-like flavor and worked to make the best survive another dance floor era.
