REISSUE:  “Expressway To Your Heart” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Karen Young

Karen Young is one of the disco artists of the late 70s which shaped the final stage of disco evolution with her big 1978 dance floor classic “Hot Shot”. The impact of this formulation of soul, funk and the style which emerged from an underground dance movement and its participants. “Expressway To You Heart” is a single from 1982 produced by Walter Kahn – who also brought us disco projects Mizz and Cindy and Roy. This cover of the Soul Survivors 1967 psychedelic/funk number is a juicy 80s electronic dance number which gives Karen another chance to give her voice a run-down with disco. One of the early 80s domestic releases which I admired and played out during its release.

I have taken the 12” single which features a medley including another segment titled “No U Turn”. I separated the medley and focused on “Expressway To Your Heart” and extended and rejoined the pieces of this nice production. It is given some drum loops to enhance the groove and also some pieces of the original to remind us how ingenious this composition by Philly’s Gamble and Huff really is.
