Chas Jankel is a
funk/synth-pop artist from the early 80’s whose career is also known with Ian
Dury and The Blockheads in the late 70’s. His solo career created several dance
floor hits in the electronic dance vein including “Glad To Know You”, “109
(Give Me Something I Can Remember)” and “Without You” – each a shining example of
the move to electronics in disco music during the time period. “3,000,000
Synths” comes from his second album titled “Chasanova” from 1981 and is more of
an experimental instrumental piece with touches of funk beats and ecstatic
keyboard effects and echoes. It plays out with a hardcore club feel and during
the street beat sound of the time could one of the lasting impressions of dance
floors.
I have taken the
album version of “3,000,000 Synths” and have given it a new ReStructure Mix
paying homage to Jankel’s usage of ears and rhythm with this track. It always
found its way onto my early morning playlists and kept many moving during those
moments of intense nights out.
