ReStructure Mix Update (7/21/20) “Big Fun” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Inner City

Inner City is Kevin Saunderson and Paris Grey (Shana Jackson) – an innovative dance group which began a new fused sound of techno/electronic dance the heavy bass beats of house music. The mid-80s were an experimental time for dance music and the crossover of DJ remixes influenced by their styles became a sound which utilized looping piano and bass over heavy bass beats. “Pump Up The Volume” by M.A.R.R.S. being one of the big radio and club tracks to make a mark in this genre in 1987. The house sound began as an alternative remix on pop/dance singles which yielded the underground sound. “Big Fun” was released in 1988 and although it had an extreme impact on the club shift to house and techno the years prior were definitely a testy of this formula. The track is simple and dedicated to the Chicago house vibration with a touch of techno and later to add acid elements to the mix.

I have taken the 12’ remix version of “Bog Fun” and reworked the song for homage to the 80’s and early 90’s dance scene. There are new breaks and parts that move on to new directions but my focus clearly is to outline that ominous house sound.
