Bionic Boogie is a disco concept from producer Gregg Diamond (Andrea True Connection, George McCrae, Gloria Gaynor) who early on understood the direction of disco music in the mid-70’s. His production of Bionic Boogie marked one of his standards which was always an ensemble of talented and soulful vocals including Luther Vandross, Jocelyn Brown (Shaw), Diva Gray and Gordon Grody) and also musicians who played above the standards unlike some mechanical disco outlines which became the overkill of the late 70s. His music was lyrical in the sweeping sounds of Euro-disco yet a touch of funky guitars - both lead and bass. His direction was also a bit more abstract in theme and execution. “When The Shit Hits The Fan (Rocket Pocket)” comes from the second Bionic Boogie album from 1978 and is another example of Diamond’s clever play on words and music. This stomping piece uses the adage as a placement card for a time when dancers could not stop moving on dance floors thanks to music like this.
I have taken the album version of “When The Shit Hits The Fan (Rocket Pocket)” and placed the pieces into a new dub-like ReStructure Mix. Using drop-cuts and EQ effects to give the rhythm a new stage. The exit makes it obvious that I went a bit far - but so did this iconic sound which took the seventies on a new trip.
